Brand New 8 gallon bio cube

Natural filtration. Chaeto and a little magnetic light on opposite of your tank lights. I'm a huge fan.

I might just drop my purigen in there... and some matrix under the sponge.

@Reefrookie220 we are going to shop a little. If you are there say hi. I'm wearing a mustard shirt and ripped up jeans.

Anyone know how to cycle using live sand and dry rock? Thanks!

Filter question. If you are using chemipure, do you also need the biocube filter cartridges? Can you just use filter floss and chemipure?

You dont need the biocube filters.
I dont even run one on mine. Just chemipure blue and thats it.......with a little bit of floss.

Thanks. That's what I thought, but I wanted to make sure. I have done it both ways.

Why do you like blue over elite?

I know there is a difference between blue and elite, but I'm not sure what it is. Do you know?

I used to use purigen and CP elite. I think the elite has carbon, GFO and some kind of DI resin in it. Stripped my water of all nutrients. And stripped my coral of color. Now I'm just running RedSea's Reef Spec carbon. About half a box in the bag and its in the bottom of the media basket with the middle shelf removed. Filter floss in the top spot. That with a weekly 20% water change keeps my tank happy. I can't tell you what NO3 and PO4 are, haven't tested in a month or better. Corals are happy, algae is minimal, Ca, Alk and Mg are rock solid at 430, 8.1 and 1320... It's almost like having auto pilot, with water changes. Now watch, I said that and something is going to screw up.
