Personal rant. Has anyone shipped UPS this holiday? Next day is really 5 days and 3 day is really 12?! The cost is about 3x higher than last year too.

My concern with water changes is a.) you can’t diagnose what occurred to prevent it in the first place and b.) it could throw things even more out of whack.

Since this was a phosphate issue, a water change would have made it worse.

I dose phosphate to new water so it wouldn’t have made a difference though.

I can’t believe how many people ignore phosphates with how important they are to a tank and how material 0 phosphates are to a corals health.

I get to add 6 new frags to the display and everyone is happy now so everything is all good.

Once your tank gets a bit older it won’t be such a concern. Your rocks can only absorb so much! My fish food has phosphates, my coral food has phosphates...my fishes poop, my urchin poops (omg does my urchin poop!). Also, I don’t run a skimmer, so all that yummy phosphate goodness just stays in the tank waiting to grow stuff. Like algae to feed my hermits, snails, and urchin! don’t want them to starve

I tried that but called it quits after feeding two fish two mysis cubes a day, cut photoperiod on fuge entirely, disconnected my skimmer and came down with a bacterial infection.

Will be a good day when I don’t have to dose phosphates any longer.

I think the two new fish will help.

Mine is very close, I haven’t dosed at all the last week which is why it finally bottomed out. It seems like it’s at a .01ppm run rate at this point with no photoperiod.

Who knows? Maybe I’ll even be able to turn the lights on for my fuge some day

I went with USPS and they said the 14th got there on the 13. Sent it Wednesday

You have a crazy situation to be sure. I've heard of phosphate bound rock wreaking havoc on a new tank leaching out and growing Motley Crüe hair algae.

Rock acts as a buffer. Once it becomes bound enough, it will leech phosphate if the level drops in the tank.

The key is to not allow phosphate to be bound at a ppm you don’t want it to remain at.

The inverse is also true which is what I’m experiencing.

Regardless, almost any decision that involved adding phosphates is better than not if you are bottomed out.

The rock is binding at a really nice level.

I think with just 4-5 fish, I could keep my phosphates at excellent levels with a lot of good control.

I had 5 fish. Now I have 4 fish. I’m giving the tank a readjustment period before I make any changes, but it’s clear that the blenny was eating things..
