You see those white bands? its the coral recessing , I had the same issue ... I removed something that looked like a black spot very near the hammer it was eating it .....

How would I know what would be eating on it? Only thing new is some rock that had been dead and dried for a pretty long time.

Those spirally things near the base of it. Would those be a cause of concern?

That’s not recession, the white bands. ny Hammer has them as well as torch. It seems to smooth over as they grow. Might have been how the skeleton formed while developing.

Naw. I always give corals a full day when they get like that. My hammer will do this for like 20 min or so randomly.

Just keep the 24 hour rule, don’t make any kind of actions if just one coral is stressed.

There are things us hobbyists May never know and diagnosing these guys accurately can be very difficult. If after a full day he’s still ticked, try to figure it out.

8/10, they’ll be fine the next day.

+1 on leaving it for a few days! It’s probably just responding to the change in parameters from your wc. What salt are you using? (Some mix at really high alk, etc)

They are all over my tank, especially on the back wall. I remember asking the LFS about them back in the day, was told they are harmless and I immediately stopped worrying, forgot what they are called. My urchin will eat some and they seem to only like shady places.

Something with Manganese in it, like Fuel, is important for them. They will eat mysis, reef roids, oyster feast, coral pellets. Hammers have big mouths

I got my reef roids off Amazon, everything else at my LFS. I know it’s a little pricier but I like supporting local small business.

Spirorbis worms. As you said , they are harmless.
