Brand new skimmer. Tank is still in cycle stage though parameters are perfect and the 2 clowns are super happy! But this darn skimmer!!

It is overflowing no matter how much air I allow or what I set the "water level control" to - though I've noticed any changes between open/close on the large control doesn't seem to do anything. I know these thing are supposed to have a break in period, but the amount of bubbles its creating in the sump are beginning to worry me. Is this okay?

Also, there are billions of microbubbles escaping thru the bottom where the opening for "water level control" is. So if you open the air intake valve, the cup boils over. If you close it, the bubbles from underneath just take over. See video please and any input is greatly appreciated!!

Give it time to break in, about 2 weeks time. Also try to elevate it to the point where the bubbles don’t overflow into the cup, then gradually lower it back down to the ideal level once it has broken in.

What would u recommend raising it with? Plastic? A metal pot or pan?

No you don’t want to put any metal in your sump. You can make a little stand out of pvc to elevate just enough.

To add as well, you don’t really have to have your skimmer running if you are still cycling your tank. How long have you had your tank set up?

Turn off the air for a few days and let it buildup some organics on the inside.

Hang in there! I have the 120 also and it overflowed a ton for 3- 4 days. I just left the collection cup lid off so it could break in. It works great now and there are no microbubbles escaping the skimmer chamber.

Sorry did not see this. If you did not start with live rock then their is nothing to skim from the tank.
I've got two mature Dot Clowns in the tank now. I'm feeding what I think is a reasonable amount (2-3min feeding time). But I'm afraid I mightve over fed because the water is slightly cloudy now...was thinking the skimmer could help that? Or maybe a bag of carbon?

Or, and probably best, just leave it be and wait...?

Did they escape before it was broken in?
Oh yeah. It was identical to what you’re going through. I was getting impatient wondering when the heck it would start working and not bubble over like crazy. I’d leave it all the way open: so open the air, turn the main tube fully open, and open the fine tune screw. After a couple days it’ll calm down and you can put the lid on then start adjusting from there.

OK, thats good to hear. Were u able to raise it up enough to keep the bubbles contained during break-in? Or did they overflow just the same?

And will the billions of microbubbles hurt anything? (eg. Fish, Cycle, Algae growth, etc.)

Nah, I didn’t mess with all that because I’m lazy! It’ll be working fine before you know it. If you’re worried about the bubbles you can close off the air intake. It’s just air so it’s not going to hurt anything in my opinion - it’s just unsightly. I just deep cleaned it two days ago and here’s what it looks like now. It’s been running for 2 months

Man, that looks great! How high is your sump water level?
