Breaking in Nyos 120 Skimmer - Need Help!!

I got it raised about 1.5" and sump water level is 8. Its still going mad. I'm just gonna let it run for a while and see. Hope all these bubbles don't jack me up!
Another thing I do during this time is I move my ato pump into a container with saltwater and I just dump out all the water that collects in the skimmer. It’s annoying and time consuming but after 3 or so gallons it stops going crazy and since I had the ato connected to saltwater my salinity stays in check instead of being lowered by freshwater refills.

Hey how’s it going? I have the same skimmer and going through the same phase as you did. Did it solve on its own?

Hey there! Yes it did. I used egg crate to raise it and just let it run it course with the air almost closed off and the water flow valve fully open. It was working normally within a week. Now, its pulling the darkest, nastiest stuff I've ever seen!! I love it!! But that break-in was a little pain but it will pass. Just take the cup off and let her rip!!

Mine has been running for more than a week with water level adjustment fully open and the air adjustment a little bit open. I still see micro bubbles everywhere around the skimmer. What was the water height in your sump? How deep in the water the skimmer right now after the adjustment? My water level is right about 8.5" so I really don't think I need to raise the skimmer as it is already around optimal water height as per Nyos.

My sump water level is naturally at 8.5". I raised the skimmer up about 4 inches to begin with and took a piece of egg crate out each day as the bacterial film grew to reduce the bubbling. If you've already been running for a week, I'd just raise it up, CLOSE the water output almost completely, close the air intake almost completely and let it run for a few days more. I'd say by weeks end you should be good.

This is mine now:

I just cleaned the cup and neck this morning.

Also, prob dumb question, but surely you have some bioload? Fish or something?

My Nyos has just now really started performing like an ALLSTAR. I mean, literally, no matter how I adjust it it pulls thick nasty skimmate. I run the air intake fully open (with airline tubing outside the sump to allow for better oxygenated air) and the water valve about halfway closed.

No my tank is on Day 21 cycling. No fish in it.

Then prob don't need to be running the skimmer. It may be slowing your cycle if there's no bioload for it pull. Its just pulling your beneficial bacteria imo.

It is not collecting anything in the cup. I just let it run for the sake of breaking in. I haven’t collecting anything from the cup since day one. But the micro bubbles still coming out from the bottom like yours.
