My sump water level is naturally at 8.5". I raised the skimmer up about 4 inches to begin with and took a piece of egg crate out each day as the bacterial film grew to reduce the bubbling. If you've already been running for a week, I'd just raise it up, CLOSE the water output almost completely, close the air intake almost completely and let it run for a few days more. I'd say by weeks end you should be good.
This is mine now:
I just cleaned the cup and neck this morning.
Also, prob dumb question, but surely you have some bioload? Fish or something?
My Nyos has just now really started performing like an ALLSTAR. I mean, literally, no matter how I adjust it it pulls thick nasty skimmate. I run the air intake fully open (with airline tubing outside the sump to allow for better oxygenated air) and the water valve about halfway closed.
