Want to my lfs today to pick up some vibrant. Girl that works there told me they were out of vibrant, but they have this product from brightwell called razor. She said it is Brightwells equivalent to vibrant. I picked up a bottle to try since I'm battling some bubble algae right now, has anyone tried or have experience with this product??

Never heard of it so had to look it up :) It is polymer based, so it is a algaecide like algefix.

Actually in that case, I mispoke, I would want to try Microbacter Clean, not the Razor. I prefer organisms over chemicals (yes I know organisms are made of chemicals).

I use both the MicroBacter clean and razor
And I feel like together they are the same as vibrant but I’ve never used vibrant so it would be hard for me to say they are the same but in that fact that my tank is always crystal clear without any algae growth issues like vibrant promotes I feel like they are the same .anyhow I’d love to try vibrant next time I see it I’m definitely going to buy it.

I have tried vibrant twice. Both times it really hits my sps hard.. To the point of almost bleached out. The 2nd time I tried it (just a month ago) I under dosed big time because I saw what it did the first time. It still hit them just as hard.. Just ordered razor to see how it goes. Hoping a lot better then vibrant.

I’d be careful with vibrant. I’m battling a domino effect of RTN and STN amongst my sps. One has been lost and the other two have slowed after a large water change and running some carbon.

The only thing that changed in my system that can be pin pointed was the addition of vibrant.

I thought I was up to date with product in general but never heard of Razor. Interested to hear of results

Vibrant and Razor are both bacteria based products. I discussed these products with Jack Kent at the Atlanta Reef Club event. I've used Vibrant and it works, with a Acan shriveling for a few days bit no apparent effect on other corals. Acan is fine now.

Razor, according to Brightwell is a polymer based product. It's not bacterial. It seems to be a flocculant. So it's very different from Vibrant in that sense. This seems to be supported by the lack of instruction to turn off UV and skimmer as opposed to Brightwell's other bacterial products.

MicrobacterClean on the other hand is a bacteria based product that's intended for (as name implies) cleaning the tank. In that way it seems to be more like Vibrant.

While from their product descriptions, Vibrant and Clean seem to be similar products, I'm not sure if that's a fair comparison. If you follow people's experiences with Vibrant, talks with Vibrant creator and BRS TV investigates episodes, it would seem Vibrant bacteria somehow directly affect algae. Including macro-algae such as chaeto.
Clean on the other hand just seems to help degrade detritus etc.

I know that I watched an episode by BRS and it said that after your tank cycles to keep lights off for 4 months and treat with either vibrant or some type of microbacter. cant remember if it was clean or maybe microbacter7. I remember him saying it can help with new tank syndrome and algae before t ever happens, like a preventative. Does anyone know. Cant find thge episode and there are soooo many!

Does anyone have experience with microbe lift special blend water care. Cleans and reduces nitrates and reduces maintenance and algae sticking to walls. I have some that was on sale for 3.99 thought I might try that instead.

I have added microbelift nite out starter bacteria and dr tims to my 6 month old 10 gallon because I am testing positive for some amonia. I have 18 frags in there that are new and they dont look happy, one has died for sure and many others wont open. I also had my refractometer go crazy and started giving way below false reading so my salinity got very low like 1020, not sure how long but last time i checked and the last waterchange was about 8 days before so they were likely in that low salinity all that time, now I am dealing with ammonia and copepods crawling everywhere that my hubby decided to add! Big mistake.

LOng story short is they were doing much better when they had the low salinity water!!! I am not sure what the problem is, if its the amonia or the additives the copepods or a delayed reaction after the low salinity! Anyone with any sugestions? I dont think I am going to add any more bacteria products but add Seachem prime. My fish have been removed to another tank.

Vibrant just seems to strip the tank of phosphate and nitrate to control the algae, at least that is what it did with my tank and others on here. Then you battle to prevent your sps from bleaching, RTN or STN, sometimes successfully, sometimes not.

Has to be Bacter 7

Bought a bottle of Razor to try getting rid of bubble algae. Heard from an IG post saying it was effective.. But just saw on YouTube in a video comment someone saying Razor killed his nem..

Waiting for him to respond. I have a dozen Chicago Sunbursts.. Not going to risk them.

Do consider the experience of this person, If proper dosage was administered, If useable gallons were considered and other factors such tank Temperature, ph, salinity, dissolved oxygen, etc.
I personally used Vibrant for bubble algae with success.

Very true. Other factors could have caused his nem to die. Something maybe off in his tank to lead him to try Razor..

I also have Vibrant but also haven't really put to use hearing others have used it and lead to bleached Sps lol..

I had similar effects when I used vibrant, the SPS bleached. Razor on the other hand has never affected my SPS or any other coral in that aspect. Razor actually helped me get rid of Chrysophytes that took over my rocks. It’s been working really well for me when I see nasty algaes pop up, just dose to the directions and follow them and all will be fine.

Update... I went ahead and tried Razor. Followed the instructions for dosing amount for my tank. Went the 10 days plus 2 more with higher dose since I didn't see any changes with bubble algae at all. So 12 days... it pretty much did nothing. It feels like there was a slight bacteria bloom.. I see more white stuff on the glass all around above the water line.

That reminds me... I need to add back carbon which I took offline per instructions. But yeah, it did nothing for my tank. Didn't affect any corals or sunburst anemone whew. My dragon's breath looks ok but lost orange tips which could be just due to lower phosphate *shrug*. but it did not die.
