Brown algae

Hmmm. Ive heard that.:D

I will say I had to do a similar recently on my 30g. recently but I didnt need to do all of the rocks. Most and the sand Sections probably? over the month?

Okay. I'll go ahead and do the rocks this weekend. Thanks for all the help. I'm so determined to make this the most intense reef tank ever. Haha. Hopefully my boyfriend plays along.

A pleasure. If its too much to do all the rock at once stages are fine too. AS Diesel did counsil. But Id concentrate on the water quality first. I got bad water from the get go in my new DT build, from a HIGHLY trusted source. Plagued me for months lost some good little friends.

Consider for other reefkeepers and folks learning too, a build thread. You can call it "Ressurection" or something dramatic and cool like that.

And read up on those links. Youll be happy you did.

My suggestion is to test phosphate and nitrate levels. Get the skimmer and begin using no-pox by red sea. It takes time but algae will go away as nutrients are removed. It works.

I am sure everyone has gone through this once or twice, if not more. When I have had to deal with algae issues, my measures have been to do the following:
  • Check phosphates and replace GFO frequently, if you are running GFO.
  • Adjust Skimmer to skim a little more wet.
  • Stay on top of water changes of 10%
  • Hair Algae - Increase clean up crew
  • Red Slime Algae - Lights out for one week, on 7th day actinic only. Then lights on. Repeat once a month until gone. You can also use a baster to suck it off the rocks and use a fine mesh net and recycle water back into tank, minus algae.
This is based on my experience and what I have done to combat certain types of algae. Keep in mind that this is a natural process of nature and don't get too crazy about it.
