ah, so instead of having a downgraded filter, run the canister withremoving anything. It shouldn't be a problem.

just run a new UV sterilizer imo, if its an old canister filter that has been sitting around for a while and used for FW its better to just get a plain UV filter.
I used the filter the FW african cichlids, but I never used the UV part on it. Never needed it in that tank.

just get a new UV, especially since you just got off vibrant you don't wanna have to risk dealing with weird gunk left in the canister.

Ok thanks for help guys. Heading to Petco now. I ordered online and going to pick up, I had a coupon for online order, instead of 66$ it was only 55$ :)

Just siphon it out.
Siphoning does nothing to it when on its own. All I did was remove Phosphates which even then didn’t kill it off, siphon it and add a natural predator. After adding the natural predator it vanished altogether. 2 years of fighting it and all I did to get rid of it was add a predator.

Im back, UV installed and running. wish me luck!

The brown looks like diatoms to me. The red is almost certainly Cyano.

Chemiclean works great against Cyano. Diatoms usually go away on their own in time.
