Brown Hornet

Not defensive, just informing. No, I dont see purple on the hornets that you have pictured. But hornets do have yellow. So the name hornet comes from the yellow on them and and purple came from the purple on them. Put the two names together and you have Purple Hornet.

The linear mouth on a People Eater is what makes it a People Eater. It like the lined bumps on a Ricordea is what makes it a Yuma Ricordea or the bulb tips on a bulb tip anemone is what gives it there name.

Yeah, these have a yellow circle around the center too. But instead of purple, it's brown.

I put the names together and came up with Brown Hornet.

Are you sure you are looking at purple hornets? I am only asking because many people are calling a Lemon Drop a Purple Hornet, many people.... They look extremely close and the Lemon Drop and Purple Hornet both have altering skirts. The only thing is that the Lemon Drop stays a very DULL purple unlike the Purple Hornet. I will have to take a side by side photo. From what I have seen there are only a couple people that have true Purple Hornets. There are 4 people that I know of on this site, there might be more? The Lemon Drop is a look alike and being sold as a Purple Hornet. There is a huge difference when they are seen side by side.

I agree with EliteReefs about the Purple Hornets not looking that nice in person. Because of the price tag they command, I ended up grabbing a few polyps from a friend who had them. But in all honesty, I like some of the other zoas that are cheaper in price compared to the Purple Hornets. What I disagree about is if someone is willing to pay big bucks for some corals, why not let the person who has it make some profit of those willing to pay. Slap an LE, or Tyree on it and you got yourself some high price zoas :). Heck this might even be a trend, or is it already happening that I don't know about?

Thats the great thing about naming coral, call it what you want. The yellow circle and altering yellow tenticles make it a hornet like the purple hornet and the blue hornet. Again, just supplying information, not arguing what you would like to call your polyps.

Honestly I don't care that much either. Just thought I would show off my new fairly cool, yet not off the hook, zoa.

Hey, I have some "Goldschlaggers" that I got to name, so hornets can be BROWN, BLUE, PURPLE, GREEN... Whatever, cause it is all meaningless anyway. ;)

I like it and think the Brown Hornets look better than the Purple Hornets that I've seen, in picture or in person...I do realize though, that the Purple Hornets are the stylish choice of the day....and THAT is what drives prices in this game....

it's funny... I had the so called "Purple Hornets" for a long long time, but they've got names like Blue eyed dragon, lemon drop (like the previous poster said)
Well, the most I could sell for them were about $25 for a frag of 10 polyps, and most people would skip over it and go down to the next bright frag I have in the tank... But ever since the pretty picture got posted, price definitely went up...
Hey, photographers, go take a really really nice pic of the green button polyps for us, post it on ebay, and we can all become really rich selling those weeds!

but like most Florida zoas/palys such as the Alien eyes, AOI, they don't last long in my tank. After a certain amount of time (perhaps temp/ph/lighting change) they just simply melt away. I think I had a conversation about it with a few other collectors... they all agree that those FL palys melt away after a period of time. *shrug*
