I am trying to get my nuvo 10 nice, and clean. I was wondering is this algae I have pictured bryopsis? Also when i turkey baster the rocks this strange dense white stuff comes off of them. The white stuff is so dense though it will not stay suspended in the water column. It just sinks to the bottom or collects on the rocks again. What can I do to eliminate this white stuff? In terms of the algae ive dosed 1 cap reef flux, and am using 1 ml vibrant per week while keeping a eye on nitrates and phosphates.

This isn’t bryopsis, you would never be able to just blow it off.

It’s probably brown hair algae that’s dead from the vibrant.
Others chime in please!

Looks similar to what I had in my tank. It was growing on a Paly frag I have. Currently dosing the tank with Flux RX, about 5 days into the dosing and the algae has receded a lot.

So the stringy algae in the 2nd pic is not the beginning of bryopsis? Its strange it grows from the rock.

What do you make of all the odd heavy white flakes? They are so dense i cant keep them floati g for the overflow wier to remove them.

Can you provide more clear photos so I can be 100% sure? As of right now I’m 90% sure it’s not. I’ve had it, and trust me, if this is it, you pull that rock/skull out! But we’ll need more images.

Cant pull it out it is one single piece. It is the entire tank. Sadly no i cant get other photos right now >.<

Hmmm. Well you’re in a dilemma then. Either you get more images or you might regret this if it is bryopsis:)

jk, you’ll safe! Not reef safe, but just safe:)

Keep in mind the goal isn’t to use chemicals..

I used as you stated first, vibrant, it cleared mine up after many months. But there’s a 50/50 if it works for you. Many will give to sides.

remember, more chemicals you put in the tank, the more and longer problems you’ll have.
staying on top of your water changes will work best, but if it’s a ten gallon tank, you’ll have many more problems down the line in trying to maintain your chemistry levels.
mare you using RO/DI water for you top off?

See thats the problem. Water changes are not the be all end all. I do 2.5 gallon every week in that tank. It holds 7.5 gallon. Good 30% water change every week since it started. Nitrate is usually 2 and phos usually .02-.04.

I bought some dwarf blue leg hermits from Reef Cleaners and they also devoured that algae on a frag I had. BSR is right though, chemicals will remedy for a bit but open the door for a new algae/pest.

I got all my algae from frags. Also see above. I have no idea what else i could do aside from vibrant etc. I do like 30-40% water change weekly. I only feed every other day. The nutrients are low as well. But i have sea lettuce bubble algae and brown algae.
