Did Fluconazole Kill all of your Bryopsis?

  • Yes

  • No

  • I'm treating my tank with it now.

  • I love Bryopsis and I'm mad that everyone is killing it.

Sample sent out today. Will report back in 7-10 days.

I'm still getting tons of what appears to be diatoms... deep brown rust color on the sand bed.
And my sps are turning dark/dull.

Have you started back with your water changes? I didn't know if you were finished with the Flucon treatment or not.

Im at day 11 now, was expecting the Bryopsis to have cleared by now, but still there (although doesnt appear to have grown since, and has dulled a bit in colour) - I picked some out today as it was bothering me (I know this is against advice).
So - at Day 14, do I run a WC, then run another dose for 14 days, Re-dose without the WC, or run WC, without another dose, in the hope it is just slow to react?
my algae continued to die for a month and all I did was ato, no water changes. The most improvement happened after day 18 or so.

I had rust color on the sand bed too but it went away on its own. March 7 was one month for me and I have not done a water change yet. It took full 3 weeks to really say it was a successful treatment. I am just starting to get a film on the glass so I just put GFO and carbon back online.

Over the course of a week, I changed the complete volume of my tank... 3 large water changes. Going to do another large one this weekend.

Good to know.
This is what I was hoping, but not liking what I'm seeing with my sps. All major parameters are right where they should be.

There probably isn't much if any Flucon left in your system then. I had a couple small areas of gha left over from my initial treatment and once I started my water changes those areas went from white /dying off to green and back growing again. No bryopsis came back though so I know it killed all of it,even the roots. I ran a second treatment just to finish off those small spots of gha and as of now I have no algae what so ever in my tank.

Have you checked to see what your NO3 level is at? I've noticed that when mine are low a few of my sps start to darken but quickly recover once I raise it.

I would advise anyone to take the treatment out to a full 21 days regardless of whether they have bryopsis or GHA. Particularly if you have GHA. I've noticed that I have some GHA in my powerheads, I only took treatment out to 14 days. There's zero bryopsis, but I will be retreating my tank soon. Just to knock out the remaining GHA. I'm making preparations to go 21 days to over a month if need be. :)

Green and brown paly's are a different kind of plague. Well it's nice to know that even if we are plunged into total darkness for years that green paly's will still survive and take over

So I am thinking of starting the treatment and have a question. I have been dosing H2O2 for the last few weeks and wondering if i should do a WC before starting with the Fluconazole treatment? Skimmer running with cup off? Any advise?

Has held steady at about 5 ppm the whole time.

Did you finished the treatment?
Yes, it was in there for about 3 weeks.
My gha was mostly in my fuge. No bryopsis. Dinos was my main issue in the display and I treated with DinoX for that.

You should do a water change before treatment. You won't be changing your water for the next 2-3 weeks during treatment.

Also be sure to read the FAQs in the first post of the thread.

I haven't noticed any browning or darkening from the Flucon treatment at all. I have just over the last few days started using DinoX though, so I'll keep an eye on everything to see if my sps changes because of it.

Yeah, i think any issues are related to the DinoX, not flucon.
I'm actually not that comfortable posting in here because of the fact that I threw the DinoX into the mix, but you asked about my water test so I figured I'd keep you updated. :)

The DinoX went great until close to 2 weeks in. That's when all my urchins started losing their spines and dying off and some coral started to look a bit shabby.
I didn't finish the full 3 week treatment they recommend.

Don't feel uncomfortable...We're all reefing family here. :D

I may stop using the Dinox if it's causing these kinds of issues. I'll jump over to your thread so I don't derail this one with dinos.

Yeah, I hate mine too! Lol

Because of you, my rock with goochester zoas that came with a smattering of green paly's from WWC has been banished to the pico! I don't want to risk them escaping into the main display.
