I would just leave your skimmer on if it's going to impact your system that much. Some people have skimmed during the entire treatment and it still worked for them(some it didn't). You may end up having to run a second or even third treatment if you skim too much of the meds out but that shouldn't be a problem.

I kept my skimmer and UV on during my entire treatment and it worked just fine. I did take my carbon reactor offline though.

nitrates and alk don't effect each other like what you posted.
Either way your nitrates are are too low. You need to get them up to 4 ppm or higher.

Also if your carbon dosing and you have low organics and your Alk is getting above 8,5 - 9 dkh you can easily bleach SPS.

If I'm carbon dosing I don't let my alk get higher then 8 dkh to play it safe.

I'm going on 5 weeks no WC in my 20g, and no carbon. All this setup has a a canister filter. Firefish, goby, wrasse, and corals look perfect. That said, I'm tapping out. Doing WC tomorrow. This proved something good to me...

I misread his post. And yes I agree but it doesn't explain my issue at the moment. If anything hopefully we can a narrow it down for a lesson learned

Did this myself! I needed to raise my alkalinity so my pH would raise. But since I had 0 po4 + 0 no.3 I had to put some stump remover in the system. Miss read the instructions and overdosed my system on stump remover. Which inadvertently killed three corals. Well one is still on its way out but it's going to be there soon.

lol
I've done it too. Burnt tips :(

Fish hypoxia. But seeing as how your now saying the skimmer has been running with no cup I dont think that low gas exchange - hypoxia is the problem

yea with the dieoff that was occurring with the algae it seems like that is plausible.

I dosed 400mg of fluconazole 1/23/17 and I would guess it's all still in there today.

Same for my Pico tank. Never looked better. The softies, walking dendro, pods, sponges, pistol shrimp, dusters, snail, are doing great.

I've got 2400mg in the red sea. Everything is OK. I hurt the montis but that was my lights too bright.

Don't know if anyone has reported this note. A few of the rocks corals that were clean of bryopsis started growing back once in my red sea. I suspect these were roots. So now I'm hitting it on gen2. Let's see if it dies again, or if there is resistance. I want to say I will continue using this periodically.

Well I am afraid to even admit this but after all my grief today.. I learned a valuable lesson. Rtfm .. after seeing this treatment I rushed and saw 10mg per gallon ... 14 days .. then bought enough to treat all 14 days at 400mg EACH day.. just reread the first post. Was I seriously supposed to just dose once and WAIT 14 days ?!

Omg yes, only once... [emoji26]

Weeeelll that's prob what did it.. good new is we found out an sps tank can handle a LOT more dose than 10mg a gallon. I put a heck of a lot more than that on my little biocube over the last week. I really don't think the dose killed things I think my briopsis died so quickly. Effecting o2.

Lesson learned. Thankfully it didn't kill everything in my tank.

This is why we constantly say for everyone to read at least 10 pages of this thread before treating their tank.... any 10. It has been repeated that much. People just stop and ask where to get the meds . and we know that they haven't read anything because they would know where to get the meds also as it was repeated just as much.

The 14 days is because it can take up to 14 days on average to remove all the bryopsis. Some people that are heavily infested might take a few days longer. The killing of green hair algae is just a bonus for this medicine. However green hair algae takes at least another week longer. What it does is it kills a certain enzyme that they share called ergosterol. This same enzyme is what makes the algae not taste very appetizing to the cleanup crew and why they don't eat it . Once it kills that enzyme then it becomes a tasty meal for them and it makes it weak and die. It only takes one dose to do all of this [emoji6] so my guess is you overdosed your tank. Now we know what kind of damage overdosing can do, sadly.

Thats crazy!

Maybe NCreefguy can edit the tittle some how to tell people to read the FAQ on the very first post on the first page.

Do your wc then leave it alone lol. No more dosing. But if your fish are still looking lethargic you might actually need to do a second water change until they start looking better. Wait out the 14 days and see how things look. Do another water change at that time. If the bryopsis is completely gone then you're done. If not give your tank a little bit of a rest, a week won't hurt, and then do one single two capsule dose and wait that out.

Thanks yes that is my plan
