Bryopsis help

I have been reading up on this. seems like a good solution to try if the High mag and no lights does not kill it. Do you know if doing this as a long term maintenance routine has any adverse effects?
From what I have read in alot of threads about it is no. As long as you follow the directions.

Here is an update of my progress. Yesterday was day 4 with no lights and High Mag. The bryopsis is still there, there is no new growth and it does seem a tiny bit lighter in color. My infestation is not covering everything in the tank, its just one piece about every square inch or so. After the suggestion on peroxide as a possible treatment i did some reading. Seems that HO2O doceing will not kill it (altho a undiluted dip is supposed to) , supposed to work great on dino's and considering that i just beat that off i figured that go ahead and doce it. Im starting with the suggested 1ml per gallon a day of 3% solution. If it don't kill the bryopsis it will kill any free swimming dinos that could be in the water.

I'm also getting mixed opinions on the type of MAG to use. Some say that the type of mag does not matter yet others say nothing but the Kent Tech M will work. Anyone have an opinion on this? If Kent is the only one that will work, Why? what is in it that makes it so effective. I do know that some species of bryopsis does not respond to the High Mag treatment and wonder if this is fueling the rumor about the Kent Tech M.

Kent M worked for me. I asked all the same questions you are asking, but we don't know what is in it that kills the bryopsis. All I know is it Absolutley worked. I slowly raised my mg to 1600. Once at that point, it was about a week later that everything started to die off. Another week later it was visually gone. I left it that way for 1 month before doing a water change to make sure it was gone. I have not had a problem since. It was really bad in my tank and I lost a lot of corals. If your mg is already high, I would suggest getting it back down before adding the Kent M. Mg around the 2000 mark can start to kill invertebrates. I had no problem at the levels I was at. Good luck. Hope this helps.
