BTA or Ritteri

The nem turned out to be unmistakably a Ritteri, and died after swallowing a Turbo snail which eventually came out of the side of its foot and it never recovered, never seen anything like it. After that all the other nems are doing really well and thank's a lot for asking. Below is a current pic.

How do you know it was "unmistakably a Ritteri" when all signs point to BTA? In all of the photos you can see the bulbous tentacles (Ritteri have bulbous tips but never bulbous with pointed tips). Can you explain what you mean by the snail coming "out of the side of its foot"? Was there a hole in the foot?

That's interesting. Didn't realize by eating a snail it would kill itself but makes sense. Those anemones look very nice. I hope to have a tank full of bubble tips someday.
Basically the nem grew very quickly, was extremely greedy and would happily take a feed every day, the foot grew to a massive size and it never retracted like the BTA's. Also it didn't have the characteristic lines to the mouth that BTA's do So really a combination things. As for the snail incident, we saw the snail just as it was disappearing into the nems mouth and this was a big snail. We monitored for three weeks bearing in mind its a nano tank so we knew how many snails we had. During the three weeks it stopped feeding and became unwell. We came home from work one day to find a Turbo Snail shell empty by the nems foot with a large rip through the side of the foot. This may have all been a coincidence but either way the nem never recovered and eventually died.

I would agree with your assessment. I couldn't see an anemone digesting that shell any time soon. I didn't realize they expelled things through their foot though. It was an interesting looking anemone though but glad there are no more issues now.

It wasn't like it was expelling waste through its foot, more like something tore a hole through the side of its foot. Who know's at the end of the day its a nem and they do strange stuff that most of us don't understand.

That is most certainly a BTA, not a ritteri. It has striations around the mouth as well as a bulbous shape and color morph that are all hallmark BTA characteristics.

Yes those are all BTA, someone asked how the nems are doing now so I put a current pic up as it is now without the Ritteri.

The anemone in question was also an E. quadricolor. Not a magnifica. Just sayin.........:)

I agree, and while it may no longer matter to OP it helps others in properly identifying their anemone's, and this is important as each species has different needs or common characteristics.

Here is a video before the problems started with the snail.
