The bubble tip is stuck in the filter of the hang on back unit and it still has one float inflated with water I can still see some of its tentacles but they're completely small. It has one tiny piece of its foot stuck to the glass and some kind of white looking pureed part of it also on it ... I think it's probably toast. I turned off the filter just now to see if it will walk out but should I try to help gently or no? See pictures, with one before shot. Is it a goner?

Thanks....

Is my assumption of it on the LR prior to its being entangled to the suction of the filter suction pipe? I see that you powered the unit down. Does the pipe slip off by chance? If it was mine I would have a net to encase the entire pipe (if possible) and capture the anemone if it is shredding.

I'm sorry this happened.

Yes it was on the live rock. It's not been happy with the places available and has been moving a lot. I thought it had found a good place but then it moved again. It was half attached to the rock the maxi mini was on last night and crashing into the maxi mini which looks distressed this morning.

I took the whole pipe off, don't have the filter running at all for now. Not sure if it can walk itself out, but it still appears to be sticky and partially inflated so I'm wondering if it's still alive. I took the pipe and put it under a ledge I made after I moved all the rock and vacuumed out all the pieces I could find in the tank. It was very shredded. I also dumped the hang on back out to get the pieces out. I have a carbon filter sponge free floating right now and one covered powerhead on.

Do you think it has a shot in hell of still being alive? It was a very large anemone and a decent piece seems left but it's very attached to the pipe. Should I scrape it off and remove it from tank or leave it in the pipe and see if it walks out?

How the hell does anyone keep these things if they are always wandering? Presumably my parameters weren't keeping it happy? But all the other corals are doing very well. And you can't cover every water movement area in the tank! Even if I had a sump wouldn't it just get stuck to the overflow? I had both powerheads covered and can barely feel the suction from hang on back. This just seems ridiculous. I'm really disappointed because it was very beautiful and not cheap!

maevepotter again I'm sorry this is happening to you and the anemone.

If mine I would remove the entire pipe with the anemone and place over a container and it should eventually release from the pipe. It does not hurt for an anemone to be out of the water.

Capture all shredded and anemone particles from it with a net.

Rinse with a bit of tank water so you don't return bad juju back into the DT.

Do the smell test and hopefully, it will not smell rotten. Never give up until it is time to give up. If it is too late.

If it passes the smell test put in a small plastic colander and float in DT to see if it tries to heal. If it starts to disintegrate past the point of no return remove so it won't nuke the system.

I truly wish the best for it and you.

Agreed.

Sorry to hear about this.

Thank you both.

I'm letting it dangle now per your advice, thanks so much for the help.

While the bubble tip dangles.... The reefs of our lives....

As bad as it looks, it could still survive, just keep it QT'd or separate from reef, post outcome

Thank you... I tell you, this reefing stuff isn't much fun when it spoils your Saturday.

Sometimes it's a 2 saturdays forward, one saturday back kinda thing, long as you continue going forward it eventually becomes more enjoyable saturdays

Please continue posting pics through the whole thing. Our BTA is one week old today. May be faced with the same issue. This is quite informative. I'm sorry this happened to you.

It was having trouble going the rest of the distance so I pried it off. Didn't want it to be out of water too long...

Anemone's in the wild are often high and dry on reefs half a day or maybe more on extreme low tides, it's not an issue, they hold water for a long time.

A knowledgeable nem vendor usually will ship them in barely enough water to keep them wet
Just FYI, not that I think it matters much at this stage.

Thanks, yeah I was figuring half a day. It had been 4 hours or so.

Here it is back in tank inflated. Have it in a guppy house to keep it from going in filter/ bumping into things

If it's inflated, presumably it is trying to find a spot to land. Will this waste energy, should I try to put it someplace or just keep it in bad anemone jail until it's a bit better?

I’d try to make sure it gets at least a little flow and food. Maybe give it a little rock to grip to.

It's night now so leave it? Otherwise it's going to wander. I'd need to turn off filter overnight if I let out out, and then it may bump into a bunch of stuff. Can't put a rock in that little fry box without sinking it
