bubble algae in refugium

I think we just hijacked BIG DEDDY tread sorry about that.:(

Remember anything you put in there to eat it, will pop it to do so. A emerald crab is not just going to swallow whole bubbles. If you have it in your sump you can be sure it can get to or has gotten to all parts of the system. You just might not notice it because in other areas there is something consuming it or conditions are not as ideal. Also remember its a Macro algae just like Cheato, and can be harvested as such. As other have said its quite easy to do so. While care should be taken to remove it, you can be sure that if it's not in your DT it's because someone there likes it. So even if you happen to pop a few bubbles you should be just fine.

For me, my refugium has tons of it. I can also find it in small amounts in my overflows. Where I cant find it is in my DT or Frag tank except well inside of the powerheads where fish and snails can't get to. If I happen to drop a bubble here or there while removing it my tangs are all over it.

Hey KJ what about UV when the green guys pop them?
Would that localize the spore issue?
UV kill living organism its possible. You never know. I'm lil slow today:D

So I guess my yellow tang is taking care of dt. And if I manually remove it, I will lose a lot of pods in the process.

after talking to one of my fellow saltwater guys locally, he said bubble algae on the glass is almost unheard of. So I am gonna add a couple pictures for you experienced guys to take a look at. I assumed that it was bubble algae based on the bubbles that are in it. So what do you professionals think it is, and what will eat it?

My local buddy said he couldn't tell for sure if it was slime algae or what for sure, but definitely not bubble algae. Let me know what I have growing guys and gals!

Nope not bubble algae. Looks like a slime algae of sorts. Just throwing this out there but a first and pray it's not guess would be Dino's

Using emerald crabs to eat them.
Removing them by hand, but be sure not to pop the bubble as spores/cells will be released and the problem will spread.

When the emerald crabs "eats" the bubble algae, do you suppose he eats it whole without puncturing the bubble with his claws or mouth? :)

Well I shut down return and got all mid evil old fashioned. Scraped all of it out. Still curious as to what it was. But I feel better cause now it's gone
