Welcome to R2R! Can you give us more information about your system and everything you have done to it? Looks like a new tank, I try to clean all my new equipment with white vinegar before installing but that almost looks like soap bubbles.

You have a new system and something you used to build it is releasing a surfactant that is making foam in your overflow where the water is being mixed with air. It is the same reason new skimmers overflow for a while.
It will go away and is very common.

It’s been about a week already and still occurring. Also it seems like water is flowing out of the filter sock and not flowing through it

Set up all the equipment and it’s just been occurring since day one. It’s been one week.

Do you have a full picture of your sump? As long as that section of your sump is that full your sock isn’t going to work.

Probably just a release agent used in the manufacturing of some of the components.
How much longer should I let this occur before I find it a concern ? Or any suggestions on what I should do ?

What size filter sock, as well as micron, and what size return pump? If pump is dc, what is it set at.

You may have more flow than the filter sock can handle.

Also, for the foam, I had a tank do it for 2 weeks when all was a brand new. Forgot to clean the skimmer and the release agent just kept foaming and foaming. I did a few small water changes via letting the skimmer skim very wet and draining the skimmer real-time via a hose to bucket.

On my tank, If I move to much water thru the supply and return it will cause the skimmer area and sock area to foam up. You may have to much flow going thru sump.

Filter sock is about 8” long with 200 micron, I have a vectra M2 and set to the second lowest setting

+1 on perhaps too much drain flow for the sock to handle.
Are you getting anything in the skim cup?

Awesome and good to know, I just lowered it to the lowest setting. Lets see if that makes a difference

I bought a 7 “ sock a year or so ago and didn’t pre wash it and it made my skimmer go nuts! That’s the only sock I’ve bought that caused this .. Ton of bubbles in sump so I pulled out and put one of my older clean socks and it was fine so I washed new sock and stopped . ? Have you tried another sock or did you was before using?

Looks like it is way too deep. Have you adjusted the level of set it on a stand. Also when I first started mine it did the same thing. And also when I did my 6 month breakdown and full cleaning of the skimmer (no soap) it did it again for a day or three.

The skimmer was foaming and overflowing and the people who helped me set up my tank told me not to run the skimmer for 10 days. It’s been 6/10.

I went and bought a new sock and the same thing is occurring.
