Bubble king skimmer ?

Actually, I find him very easy to deal with. One of the very few vendors who will discuss things over the phone to make sure you get exactly what you want and need.
I actually talked to him today , was on the phone for about an hour talking, very kind and answered all my questions, one thing I forgot to ask though, the tank will be in the bedroom, with a open cabinet design for the stand, will the skimmer be very loud ?

BBK is the quietest option. it’s a luxury skimmer. My next tank will be with a supermarin. A friend has one on his tank and you literally don’t hear it.

As far as tuning my BK, it is on an AC pump. I was told to put it in 9 inches of water and set the controller to 28. Wait 24 hours and see how it looked. The next day I moved it to 30 (pump speed) on the controller and haven’t touched it since I bought it. Except to clean the skimmer. But as far as settings go, no additional work was needed.
again, this is just my experience and I’m trying to be honest and not bias

My tank is in my bedroom with a open stand and I have a Life Reef Skimmer. It depends on what pump you use as to the noise you will get. I use a Fluval SP6 and my skimmer is silent

Ok awesome

ok awesome ! That’s good to hear, I was kinda worried on that one, have you ever had a BK ? Would you say the lifereef definitely skimms better ?

If you are looking for a quiet, effective, troublesome free skimmer and do not mind paying more money, then BK is right for you.

I have owned one of the olds mini BK 200 and now have a mini BK 160. I bought the BK 200 from a former owner and have had it working non stop for almost 10 years. At the end it was a little bit noisy and too big for my tank (120 g) and sump, so I replaced it for one of the new mini BK 160 with the RD X pump. I just can say that it is difficult to tell when it is working.

So this is based off an older study but if I recall correctly (and if I’m wrong, someone please correct me) but in reality ALL skimmers perform roughly the same. They are efficient at removing about 30% DOC‘s from the water. I do think the study is from the late 80’s or early 90’s. But regardless, they seem to perform equally regardless of method of removing the DOC. That being said it sort of comes down to ease of operation, cost, and most importantly personal preference.
I personally believe if it is between Lifereef and BK, you could be happy with either one.

What skimmer did you end up with?

I ended up going with the life reef skimmer, it was a better price and from what I’ve read about performance from others , it skimmed the same if not better, actually just got notification that the skimmer was shipped , took two weeks to build, also the customer service was excellent

Good choice. The life reef was my second choice, and knowing that all skimmers perform within a small margin of one another, it makes the price point even easier to swallow.
im sure you will love that skimmer.
