So i set up a bubble magus curve 7 in my system almost 2 weeks ago and im aware theres a possibility it may still be breaking in although most people have said with thiers it takes around a week. Ive serched in a ton of forums for answers but it seems that the problem most people have with the curve 7 or 5 is that it either doesnt bubble and skim or it fills up with water and overflows. My problem is neither. Mine skims so dry that the cup gets packed with brown foam but never really turns to liquid and eventually blows the top off and starts foaming down the side. Ive even put a rock on top and it just comes out the small holes on the cover. I have it sitting in 7 1/2 to 8 inches and have it set so i can get the max amout of water in the skimmer. Any help would be great

I HAVE A CURVE 5 I JUST GOT GOING AND IT WAS A TASK TO GET DIALED IN . IM SURE SOME OF IT WAS THE BREAK IN SINCE IT WAS NEW BUT I HAD TO SET MINE HIGHER IN THE SUMP AND DIAL DOWN THE AIR INTAKE TUBE BEFORE I STARTED TRYING TO ADJUST THE VOLUME AND AFTER THREE WEEKS IT SEEMS TO BE OPERATING CORRECTLY NOW (FINGERS CROSSED).

How high do you have it in the sump and what did you have it set on before you started dialing it in?

I ran my curve 7 in vinegar for an hour before I installed it. It took 5 days to break in. 8” of water set to 1.5. It has been running steady for 5 months now. I always leave it set to 1.5. Great skimmer.

Ill try setting to 1.5 then. Mine sits in 8" as well but it skims so dry that the cup lid cant contain all the foam

what are all those bubbles outside you skimmer coming from? What happens when you totally close off the outlet. How deep is it in the water?

The specifications from the Marine Depot site below. Maybe you need it deeper.
Specifications:
Tank Capability: 185G-240G
Pump: ROCK - SP2000
Pump power: 16W, 110V 60Hz
Dimensions: 9.25"L x 7.87"W x 20.8"H
Water Level: 9.5"-11"

That's normal. Mine did this for a week. It pulled the nastiest stuff out and slowly settled in after I did a massive water change. Pics coming

I have a magus curve 5 and it did take a while to break in after I cleared the manufacturer defect blocking the Venturi. It is a good skimmer for the most part.
By looking at your sump, the skimmer looks as if it is set deep enough in the water. You don't want the skimmate to be too wet, which will draw water from your ato and that will mess with your salinity. Your skimmate looks normal to me. If it is happening too rapidly, I suggest doing what I did which is pull that waste tube at the bottom of the cup into a 1 gal jug. This will allow the overflow to go into the jug and not fill the cup. I have a cut off valve hooked up to my apex if the jug fills up too much, my skimmer will shut down. I never have to empty it until I do a water change.

Update: put the skimmer in 9inches of water and it has made such a difference. Finally getting skimmate. Still have some foam coming out of the top but considerably less. I will dial down from here

Now all you need is a jug like the one below to save you from the overflow. It works like a charm and helps you with dialing in your skimmer.

Setup looks amazing! What else are you running? I just have the skimmer with chaeto and reactor running

Thanks. I am just running chaeto and carbon in a reactor. I have marine pure with some live rock in the 2nd chamber. That's about it. I have high flow in my sump, which helps a lot. I used a pretzel container for the skimmate reservoir and drilled holes for the tube and shutoff valve. I never have to worry about overflow into the tank or on my floors. Also, in my 3rd chamber is the chaeto but I also use miracle mud. My phosphates are always zero. Looks like you have a Cadlights setup as well.

You are correct. Cad lights 100g artisan. Love it so far besides the plumbing (which is still pretty basic). I have my skimmer first then fuge in second chamber and reactor/return in the last. Ill eventually get the adapters so i can re plumb in the future.

Mine took a while to break in also, it sits in about 8"of water I love this skimmer but if i use brand new filter socks it overflows like crazy for a couple of days
