i have had my tank set up 11 months now. I am still struggling with small bubbles and cyno on off.
I am not sure why.
The thing is I have just bought a 6ft tank ready to set up and don't really want this problem in the new tank
Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong .
Thank you

When you say bubbles, are we talking about micro bubbles in the display, or bubble algae? Cyano is a pain too, but oftentimes comes and goes. Usually a bit more flow in the affected area will help too. 11 months isn't a NEW tank, but still relatively young.

Thank you for replying.
The bubbles are about 2mm and are on the rock, coral and sand.

Ok ..how long has your no3 and po4 been at 0
I suspect you have Dino’s , but you’ll need too take a sample of the algea too lFS with microscope for conformation..
And start reading this ..

https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/dinoflagellates-–-are-you-tired-of-battling-altogether.293318/

Dino’s arise and take over when there are no nutrients in the tank ..no3 po4 =0

First try and get confirmation...

If it is Dino’s .....
Do a small water change everyday syphoning as much of the algea out as possible ..
Don’t clean your glass for a few weeks let other algea grow and out compete the Dino’s ..
You will need too raise your no3 and po4 ..
You can try dosing peroxide.. that worked for me ..
Don’t worry ... don’t panic... first get confirmation, and we’ll take it from there ..

Also what is your lighting schedule?
And do you have pictures??

Cyano tends to capture bubbles if this is what you mean, don’t go crazy with cyano it goes and comes in my system get some chemiclean and in just 2-3 days they will disappear, I usually underdose to be in the safe side 75g plus 30g sump I add enough to treat 70g remove the collection cup on my skimmer and let it spill over to oxygenate the water since I don’t have a air stone do a 20% water change 3-4 days later. I have many shrimps Maxima clam sps lps zoas learhers non of which are disturbed by this

Didnt notice the pics are yours though it was someone else posting, def looks like cyano when I have them they tend to capture microbubbles and accumulate until they get big enough like your pic and just float to the surface, try to remove as much as you can with a turkey baseter with all the flow in your tank off

My advice .. get confirmation first to be sure your treating your tank for the right thing .. it could be cyno or spirulina.. or Dino’s .. know for sure what your dealing with .. this is best done with a microscope .. they all look pretty similar .. although Dino’s tends to be more brownish red than red ..!

You could also try adding more flow too the areas where you have the most growing .. if it’s cyno .. you should see a reduction with more flow

I had cyano and I did several things so I am not sure if any or all won the battle but I raised my Alk to 10-11, got a higher rated return pump to increase flow, got a sand sifting goby, really vacuumed my sand bed good and decreased my feeding. After a few weeks it was gone after battling it for about 4-6 months. There is no overnight fix to it but you can beat it.
