A few minutes ago I went to check drop some food into the tank and I realized there was a little puddle under the cabinet. I look up and see water and salt down the overflow line and that there is water against the glass where the bulkhead meets it. The tank has been full and running for a few days and this just started this morning. Is there a way to fix it without draining the tank?

Did you try turning it to make sure it was securely tight?

Yes, it doesn’t feel like it can go further turning by hand. My dad is pretty knowledgeable with plumbing and when we set it up he says it felt fine. However he is not home from work right now so can’t help me. Not a single drop of water was leaking until today when I opened it up.. is it possible it somehow loosened itself?

I agree. I would try to tighten it a bit more. Just don’t try to tighten it too much. I have seen the nuts break.

I have not seen it but I have heard if you have a lot of vibration in the line they could loosen themselves

So you think I should try and get in there with a wrench? Maybe like a little fraction of a turn with it? Then dry everything and run like normal to see if it stops leaking

My dad said that when I called him, I’m wondering if that’s the case. We are using flexible tubing so we planned to strap it soon, hopefully that will help. I’m going to try tightening it for now

I tighten mine with a wrench before but as stated just be-careful don't put too much pressure on turning it

Hand tight and then another quarter to half a turn I believe.

If I understand what you've just said, this flex tubing is also going horizontal to the bulkhead without support? If so, that stress could be causing the leak, but more importantly putting undo pressure on the glass and potentially breaking the glass. Support all horizontal runs of pipe!

Not a good day. Some of the water dropped into my controller and random alarms started going off and all my pumps started randomly going on and off. I’m thinking it’s fried. Don’t think today can get any worse [emoji24]

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that! I hope you get it all sorted out though :(

I emailed customer service hoping they will be able to do something if it doesn’t make a miracle recovery. I’m 15 so there is no way I will be able to afford another one. I spent so long getting this tank ready and today everything is just falling apart.. why is it that a tank I plan out for months goes to **** but my first reef that I threw together as I went along never had any problems?

oh that sucks. Don't let things like this bug you. It happens to all of us. I remember when I changed out my piping and return pump and made a big mess. I also fried a power stripe (almost started a fire) when I didn't catch water running down a power line. I would unplug your controller and let it dry out it might be ok

Every tank is an adventure, and has its different ups and downs. One tank could come together flawlessly, and another tank can be an absolute nightmare.

Live and learn my friend! It happens to everyone, my brand new Current IC lights crapped out on me the day after I added some plating and hard corals fro the first time. I was lucky to have an old T5 sitting around and threw it on so nothing died.

There's a thread on here about the "dumbest" and generally bad things people have done by accident. Check it out, I'll link it if I can find it, you'll see that even those who have been doing this for years make simple mistakes.

Now, the bulkhead. Just try to give it a quarter turn with a wrench. I had a dripping bulkhead that started three days after filling a 220, an this did the trick.
How is the tank drilled? And what overflow style? Because you should be able to turn off the return, and just empty the overflow and have access to it.

I’m not sure exactly what you mean by the second part but there are two holes drilled in a corner overflow. We couldn’t get a big enough wrench, but channel locks did the trick.
