Buyers remorse

My buyers remorse includes. Too small of a tank (4 times), cheap lights, cheap wave makers, fish stocking order, invasive corals, rock scaping. All of this comes with reef keeping experience and I wouldn't change a thing..

I totally agree about the green star polyps, i had a tiny piece with only a couple of tendrils on it and now it is half of my 250 gal. Also, encrusters like sunset montipora are starting to ride up my SPS killing as they go. if anyone has advice on how to control this specific problem i would love to hear from you. AptasiaX seems to knock it back for a bit but always it creeps back.

Couldn't agree more. Hobby has taught me to buy things right the first time. Trying to save a buck but you'll always end up buying the good stuff at the end and have wasted double the money. My buyers remorse was buying all those corals that I thought I could keep when I first started the hobby lol. Expensive lessons

What a painful feeling - buyers remorse...
I bought a GHL KH Director and 2 four pump dosers. They were so difficult for me to set up that I hired my LFS guy to program and set them up. I paid him for hours of work during which he even had remote sessions with GHL and they still couldn't get them working.
Now I'm trying to sell them at a loss. I cringe every time I think about the whole brand new system sitting in the closet waiting for a buyer.

In the meantime, I refuse to buy another dosing system until I sell this one so it screwed me up like that, as well.

I had a custom 30x30x24 93 cube built last Christmas time. it’s been sitting, still boxed in the garage....... I just last week ordered a 32x32x22 from the same Builder.
But what I Really want is a 36x36x22, but I absolutely don’t have a spot for it right now and i am pushing it with the 32”....welcome to the port of indecision .

My buyers remorse? Putting more frags in my tank knowing I’m moving sometime this year to a new house. I keep buying even though I know it’s just more things I have a chance of losing when I have to empty it all and transfer everything over to the new house.bbbbuuuuttttt I just can’t stop because I am an addict. Refractometer solution. It was delivered during the middle of summer in AZ which apparently can make it go bad with the high heat.

Could not figure out what was going wrong with my tank for 6+ months while corals and clams were struggling and dying left and right. Come to find out my salt levels were WAY off.

That $8 ended up costing me hundreds of dollars ‍

Too many to count but the one I think about often is the 180 custom tank I had made. Instead of using the entire area I had for it I went 6 ft. Could have gone 8 easily and made it slightly deeper front to back and would have so much more room for fish to grow out.

Buying a @Cadlights Aquariums tank. Glass is trash, plumbing is trash, sumps are trash. And the customer service......... non existent.

To many to list but the winner is my six line wrasse I love wrasses but he won't allow any other wrasse my fault for not buying all the rest as I wanted at the same time and putting them all in at once and now I can't catch him

Advice for encrusting montis: place them on a small rock, the size you would like the colony to grow and then drill said rock, insert acrylic rod in it and drill the piece of live rock where you will place it. Otherwise scrape the edges with a razor or use epoxy to cover some parts.

Definitely buying damsels. Caused far too many problems, but they're 'a great starter fish'

I'll 2nd on the Damsel Fish.
Got 9 Blue Green Chromis Fish to have a great looking shoal/school.
I was warned (on Fish Forum before I bought), THAT I'd be left with ONLY ONE.
I NEVER LISTENED (with hope I could break the mold).

Things started off fantastic, as the cute little guys swam together in shimmering blue/green flickers.
Then one by one, they started the dominance thing, and started fighting/pecking and killing off the weakest of the pack.
Over time...wasn't very long...I was left with ONE! (One mean, tough Damsel)

Purchasing not 1, but 2 JBJ AIOs as my 1st and 2nd tanks, buy something with a sump and a real stand, it should be against the law to sell stands made of unknownium

Not listening to my lfs when he said do not buy a red sea skimmer or the reef mature pro as ill regret it.
Well I just bought a reefer 425xl tank so thought may as well try the red sea products so bought a rsk600 and 2 boxes of reef mature pro, cut a long story short I returned the skimmer and the reef mature pro didn't work either as my tank is going through another cycle.

For myself it would be buying Vibrant to try and tackle bubble algae...it killed all of my livestock bar one organ pipe and a setosa which pulled through...oh and it didn't effect the bubble algae at all

My one and only tank disaster after 20 years of shifting to the salty side...i read so many success stories with it i gave it a try but ended up being one of the small percentage that experience a tank disaster with it,

Many other regretful purchases over the years but that is the one that really stands out

I just posted a thread about this, but I really don’t like my rockwork I set up when I set my tank up. Now I need to rebuild it without killing anything.

I have been in the hobby long enough where I forget why I removed a particular setup last time...

This would include going back and forth on:

- Full calcium tractor setup for large tanks and 2 part
- removing sand bed and adding sand bed only to remember again why I had removed to begin with and remove again. Rinse and Repeat
- and going back and forth with large T5 fixture and LED fixtures over my tank

To be clear the final (hopefully) answer for me on all of the above is 2 part, no sand bed and LEDs.

This time I am putting a tatto on my hands
