Buying Fish online

Can you call where you bought them from to find out the salinity?

I have used a needle to poke a hole in the bottom of the bag for a few drops of water to test salinity. Then just use some scotch tape to seal the hole back up to float.

I paid for priority posting it should of been the first delivery seeing as the depot is 1 mile from me :(
So do I and had same experience except I was able to pick mine up that night when the driver returned and the box was leaking. Never took that chance again with the last 6 shipments and guarantee I have it in my hands by 10. Just received a fish about 8 weeks ago during the major COVID lockdown here on MI.

i asked you for the shipping company because I wanted to help you get your package, because I work for a major shipping company. If you live on the east coast it could be too late.

Oh and them telling you they are closed could most likely change

Im from the UK seems a little impossible now

Guys the fish arrived 3 hours ago so angry how can it come that late!!! My dad sorted them out with temperature acclimation and made the quarantine tank the same salinity and put the fish in. He said the fish at first looked horrible the yellow tang barely moving. Blue tang has some sort of red stains/marks on its tail? The foxface was all brown and breathing really heavy. I’ve just got home from work and had a look yellow tang looks the best condition breathing normally just hiding in a cave, blue tang swimming around but breathing fast and still has some red stains on its tail? Foxface has gained some colour but still not fully and is also breathing fast.

p.s All the fish are eating currently

Any advise?

Red in tail most likely ammonia burn from ammonia build up in bag. They should be ok.

Glad they made it. Hope they do ok. They don’t look bad. Fix face isn’t really even camouflaged. They must have been packaged well at least

Can’t believe how small the foxface is I’m scared about putting him into my main tank he’ll be the smallest fish my chromis’s are bigger

Last question being in bags that long I’m sure they were under a lot of stress, if they were to have a disease like ich would they have it on them? I don’t see any signs of ich at all in any fish, is it still worth treating with copper for 2 weeks then watching for another 2 weeks before I put them in the display?

I wouldn't order from an overseas company (course not sure where your located so could not be overseas for you).

I had a friend that did deliveries. I can’t say the name.. lol. But he told me when he did deliveries he bought his own route, Therefore he could call it quitting time when he chose to. do I agree with that, absolutely not. especially when you have live fish, crabs, snails That was supposed to be delivered in a timely manner, now they are sitting in a warehouse overnight. But I feel your pain I promise.

In general , UPS and FedEx meet their promised times. A guarantee doesn’t mean they’ll get it there on time, it just means if they don’t, you get refunded. So shipping live animals will always be a risk. Holding for pickup is the safest way to get your livestock.

I just got a fish today. I live in a rural area but only 40 minutes from the Detroit airport. A shipment from Illinois went to Memphis first, then came to Detroit. It arrived only 15 minutes late from the promised 10:30 am delivery. I’ve been lucky that the latest I’ve had a package arrive was 3 to 4 hrs late.

Just curious how your fish are doing?
