I have a relatively new 69 gallon tank. I am dosing 12ml a day according to Red Sea to stabilize/maintain calcium. I have a Neptune tridenr system. The calcium is continuing to drop. I am down to 333 ppm. Please help

Do you have another test kit to check it and validate the Trident is correct? Salifert or Red Sea? I don’t trust auto tester results if they don’t make sense. When did you last calibrate the Trident?

Yes I I tested yesterday with Red Sea and got same result. I was going to recalibrate trident tonight

What do you have in the tank (fish corals, etc?) and what else are you dosing? How long has the tank been set up? Other parameters such as alk and magnesium? What salt are you using?

Dosing Red Sea products. Foundation a,b,c. (Calcium, magnesium, alk) 4 trace elements. And algae control no3 po3.

using pre mixed salt for now. Tank is a month old. Nutri sea.

Moved over one clown fish from a different tank a few weeks ago.

dozen small frags

Have you tested the premixed seawater? Calcium would very likely not be dropping that much with only a dozen small frags.

I'll test that today. That could be the cause. I use apex dos to do a .5 gallon change per day

Something tells me it’s where the salt is starting you at. But you’ll find out soon! Never heard of Nutrisea.

Just tested. The calcium level of the fill water is 7

I think folks meant to test the new salt water you are using for water changes and/or to start the tank. Did you test the nutra sea water? 7 ppm was a test result for calcium? You sure you are using the kit correctly? What kit?

FWIW, Nutra Sea water is totally unacceptable if you beleive the terrible web site data they provide. I expect it was written by someone who knows nothing about seawater or their own product, but I'd move along from it ASAP.

Remarkably, it only claims to have 7 ppb of calcium. Just stupid, IMO.

I always assumed that was just their idiocy, but if you actually determined that it only contains 7 ppm of calcium, that's incredible.

I went by their site. I am going to test when I get home to check it out. Seems impossibly too low.

It is, if the product is what they claim. But it does not inspire confidence. It is also not the only issue in their data by a long shot.

definitely wondered what was going on and wondered if you tested alk! Yeah, test the salt and see what you get as a result and keep us posted. Sounds like you need a new saltwater solution based on Randy’s comments…

If you have an RO/DI filter to make clean water at home, most of the commercially available salts to mix your own water are good. Red Sea, Brightwell, Fritz, Reef Crystals, etc. depends on your price point? But people have had success with most of them.

I have a ro/di filter for my ato so I can make water. Looks like the Red Sea coral salt is good?
