Was wondering peoples methods on calibrating your temp probes for your controllers. i think mine is off and would like to calibrate it. can you stick it in a cup of ice water and the reading should be 32f or does that not work? thanks in advance.

you have to add salt to the ice water not much half a tsp table salt 8oz glass of water filled with ice cubes the reaction will give you 32 degrees hope this helps

How did you determine your thermometer was out of calibration? At least as far as the Apex goes, Neptune states the Apex temp probe is calibrated at manufacture and should not need further adjustment. For reference, I have 2 temp probes on my Apex and they match exactly almost 3 years after install.

Because I tried to calibrate it like a big dummy when I first got it

You can calibrate it yourself if you have a NIST reference thermometer, although they appear to be a it pricey to get one more accurate than +-~1C. You might want to try contacting Neptune. If you saved a copy of your initial firmware, it might contain the original calibration data.

The Maverick PT100 is reasonably priced for a NIST-traceable thermometer.
Hanna makes some affordable high-accuracy thermometers; we have one of the checktemp models and it is very handy to have around. We use it daily.
We had a Neptune temp probe fail on us once - it was a near disaster, since it started to read 111 *F.
After that, we updated our controller programs to look for obvious strange readings, send alerts, and ignore.
