So he does not have the app or account and asked me to post it for him because he doesnt beleive what im trying to say. My friend is keeping a 2” scopas in a 40 breeder! According to him its just me with the opinion that it shouldnt be in there so Id love to hear what the police have to say so I can show him this thread and get that tang out.

From Live Aquaria....minimum tank size, 125 gallons:

You would be correct. Your friend could use the 40b as a grow-out tank, but eventually that fish can reach up to a foot long and needs at least a 125 or better full grown.

It shouldn’t be there unless it is a very temporary tank, like for QT.

Have your friend go to live aquaria, find the scopes tang, and see for himself the recommended tank size.

Umm I can agree and disagree with both sides, my whole philosophy on the whole tang tank size ordeal is, anything larger than 3in should be put in a long tank, but If it’s just a baby, like under 3in than a “grow out tank” would be ideal, especially if in ur big display tank has wayyy bigger fish, could stress out the tang and cause an ich outbreak. I know a lot of people who have smaller tangs in smaller tanks I rlly don’t see much of problem with it I feel most people over react in this debate about it....
That my take on this...
oh and to answer the question about the scopas tang, rlly it will be fine legit 2inches is tiny a 3ft long tank is just the right size for it AT THE MOMENT now I hope he has plans to get a bigger tank as it grows.
My 2 cents

And to add on, every one has their opinion with everything, that above is mine. Plz don’t bash me about MY OPINION that would be so not cool

Stress doesn't cause ich, ich causes ich. Unless I am unaware of what happens in the wild, juvenile fish aren't kept in some small system until they are ready for the ocean.

Tank upgrades don't always happen as planned and catching fish is stressful.

Again that’s my opinion it’s not rlly gonna change. I expressed it like everyone else did, and our tanks aren’t the wild, we have the power to control their environment so why not help them a bit by keep them “isolated from bigger fish! Do u rlly wanna Buy an 80$ fish only to get killed by a much larger angel fish in your system?!? ( im referring to a baby hippo tang) again this is MY OPINION IM SOLELY EXPRESSING IT

Well the op is referring to a scopas tang, not a hippo. And opinions can be educated or just tossing something and seeing what sticks. So is you opinion educated or something else?

It’s educated, i have a purple tang in my 45 guess I should have used that as my example to support my opinion, u got me there I’ll give you that. I do things trial and error if it’s doesn’t work for me I ditch the idea if it works and it works for a long time then I’m good

So how long have you had a purple tang in a 45g? And how do you define success for keeping a tang in a 45g tank?
