That's exactly what that is, and yes they do as babies. Once they grow to a certain size the "stem" which attaches them will break off.It kind of does. It's attached to that rock. I've never had a fungia. Do they attach to rocks?
And now you know why they are called "mushroom corals"; fungia! Yet the hobby tends to label corallimorphs as mushrooms...
