Can someone please help me with my GSP!

So I’ve had this GSP coral for over a year now and when I first got it. It was growing like crazy and it looked fully extended almost like long green grass. Now it’s been several months and it hasn’t looked at all like grass it’s barely even open. Does anyone with experience have any idea why this is happening? How can I get my GSP to look green like grass again?

Could be a number of things. Usually GSP is pretty bullet proof and grows like weeds.

How are your other corals doing? Parameters? How often do you do water changes?

I have some aiptasia that is growing right next to it. Do you think that might be it? Also my water is good. Phosphates are 0.03 and nitrates are 5.

You have a urchin or someone who is eating or bothering him, or the other option is that your nutrients are reduced, the soft ones like a little dirt

I do water changes bi-weekly. My water is super clean. I have some Duncan’s and hammers that are doing great

I have the same problem, I can grow difficult SPS like crazy but the GSP, it won’t extend, oh the shame! Lol

I believe it does better in ‘dirtier’ water from what I’ve found, but I’m not going to provide that so....

Also my lights aren’t directly under the GSP. I would say my GSP is getting about 70 par.

Hey so do you think the water is too clean for it? It’s weird because in the beginning when I first started reefing I was over feeding and my nitrates were off the charts I think they were 50ppm. And the GSP was thriving but now with the pristine clean water and running this refugium is the water too clean for it? I’m starting to think I might need to try some SPS

Remember that softies, sort of aren't actually corals. Stony polyp corals (LPS,SPS) are reef building corals while softies aren't. They are related like anemones.

The issue with that is if I have high nutrients then I get all these algae problems and then the corals don’t grow. Is it easier to run a SPS dominant tank?

I don’t have any inverts in my tank. I am afraid that they will kill or eat my corals
