Looking into getting some chaeto but hear warnings online from buying from fish stores, and places like algae barn seem to be out of stock. Any way to treat chaeto for safe measures?

I got mine from a place selling on eBay that advertised it as pest free. That gets my attention but I don’t trust them just coz they say it. It arrived very healthy and I closely inspected it and didn’t see any creepy crawlies.
*maybe* you could use an iodine dip on it... not sure how chaeto would respond to that.

This site has it - the shipping is $39. The site states shipping is free but it's not.
It's grown in it's own separate system - I asked.

Getting pest free chaeto....... could be worse then the coin shortage!

Here in Dayton you can browse the local parks and find used needles LOL! thats about it.....

I occasionally give it away. I’m all out now but I’ll have some within the next couple weeks. I can’t guarantee it’s pest free but I have no pests I’ve noticed in my tank and rinse in tank water thoroughly before sending out. You can also dip chaeto in bayer for 5 min to kill some pests.

I got chaeto from lfs $10 per cup full. Sure it has some aptasia, but throw in QT tank with a peppermint shrimp and few days later, no more pests

I put a ball of it that I got for free in a cycling tank with NH3 readings of between 2 and 4. It certainly killed most of the fauna that was on it...including quite a few bristleworms and unidentified arthropods. I then realized that my other macro was much prettier (albeit less efficient) for nutrient export, and that chaeto is pretty stinky, and got rid of it. Vibrant, notwithstanding its claims of being macro "safe", got rid of the stragglers. :)

I use it to dip all my corals. Known to be more gentle then other name brand dips and kills most common pests.
