As the title says, for some mysterious reason I am unable to keep frogspawn in my tank. My tank has been running since late April and I really haven't had major issues besides losing acans and a few other corals. I have mostly LPS in my tank. I have hammers, torches, acans, an elegance, and other lps. All parameters stay pretty stable and within range so therefore I'm not going to list them. Yet, for some reason I cannot keep fropspawns even if my life depended on it. I lost a frag within 2 months of purchasing it. My second frag is going to be completely gone by tomorrow (was 3 heads), and I just looked at my tank and my 3rd frogspawn is starting to die (bought within the last 2 months). They all die the same way. The outer portion starts to slowly die until it reaches the head and then the tentacles fall off. Has anyone experienced this before? I do not know why of all my euphyllia my frogspawns always die.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated! :)

What fish/inverts do you have? I’ve found that butterflies tend to be especially fond of frogspawn for some reason. Also peppermint shrimp will munch on them. My angels will also nip at it.

The one I have though completely disappears until the butterflies leave it alone and then comes back. Been that way for years.

Just astrea snails, hermits, few nassarious, yellow tang, bicolor dottyback, royal gamma, 2 clowns, carpenter wrasse, diamond goby

When the frogspawn starts to die off, have you seen any brown jelly on it?

No shrimp and no brown jelly. All were placed in different places and no other euphyllia seem to be showing the same symptoms. Only the frogspawn.

I would ask about your water pramameters, but you don't want to discuss that. Respectfully.

In case I missed it, how long has your tank been running?

Frogspawn can be one of the more difficult euphyllia to get to acclimate.

I’m going to test parameters again in a bit and i’ll share the results. They are usually stable. Since late April.

Ph-8 (Red Sea)
KH-8 (Red Sea)
Ca-475 (Salifert)
Mg-1275 (Salifert)
Na-20 (Red Sea)
Sg-1.025
Phos-0 (API)

Nitrate has been at 20 for a long time even though I do 5 gal. change weekly and 10 Gal change the first weekend of every month.

when they begin to degrade are they getting very faint in color fist or just getting angry closing up then dieing off

Don’t lose color just start to die off from the outside in towards the mouth and as this happens tentacles fall off

I’ve had about 3 carpenter wrasses over the years. Two out of the three loved to nip at my frogspawn. I even caught one tugging on one. This could be a problem, but I doubt it since I’ve been told it was very rare. Sorry about this!

Yeah haven’t seen mine bother any of my coral. It was one of the very first fish I introduced.

It's pretty odd that only frogspawn die and your other euphyllia are fine. Are you buying the frogspawn from the same supplier? I'd try another and if you notice it going south try an iodine based dip and see if that helps.

Yes healthy frags from different colonies from one of the fish stores i buy from. I do dip them in iodine before they go into the tank for the first time. I tried iodine with the 2nd frag that finally melted away today, and gave a dip as well to my other frag this morning and moved it.
