Can't decide a treatment

Hey i have a sponge that has been in my main display sump. Can i put that in my QT tank tied to the pvc? I already have 2 sponges in the HOB filter but figure why not add that extra bacteria to help out. Just not sure if i can add it directly in the tank.

The more seeded sponges the merrier. ;) But what does, "my QT tank tied to the pvc" mean? The sponge needs to have flow running thru it in order to be useful. Or water being sucked into it if using an air driven sponge.

I'm late to the party, which is usual for me on mondays. Your in good hands here, but I'll add my two cents. Personaly I would go the copper route. I like CopperSafe over cuppramine though- doing this would cover you for both ich and velvet. Just take 5 or so days to raise the level of copper to therapeutic levels and keep an eye on him.

Well i already went with the FW dip and feel horrible. Before dip besides the heavy breathing he ate great and swam around looking happy as can be. After dip has been in the same spot since the dip and will not eat and is a little darker in color and still breathing pretty fast.

I feel like i may have done more harm then good.

meant my sponge to the PVC. Not to sure this dip helped at all. Hopefully he is just stressed from the dip and will snap out of it.

I have done hundreds of FW dips at the LFS I work at. I've never had a reaction like this last very long. Most of the time they act like nothing happened at all- some times they seem stressed after but perk up. I've only lost a couple fish during or right after a dip and they were well past saving.

If this fish has velvet, going downhill quick is the norm with that disease. The aftereffects (and benefits) of a FW dip won't last long. It's also possible he's having an adverse reaction to the copper.

I guess i feel this way because he was perky and lively right before taking him out of tank for dip and as soon as he was put back in tank didn't really move, doesn't eat, and is darker. Have a hard time believing if i did not dip him he'd be in the same boat.

I guess only time will tell now.

UPDATE:

So this morning he looked completely back like his yellow color again. Breathing is a lot better still a little fast to me but not like yesterday. I fed him and he took about 6-7 flakes and swam across the tank to take a few bites from the seaweed on a clip. Definitely not the pig he was prior to the dip but at least he is eating which is a good sign i think.

I think that dip really stressed him, which might of been a bad thing because today is another dose of Cupramine to slowly bring the levels of copper up some more. Maybe stressing him out prior to ramping up the dosage of copper wasn't a good idea. Maybe his lack of appetite has to do with a combo of the stress i put on him from the dip and the first dose of copper i did yesterday. But at least today he seems a lot better then yesterday after the dip.
