I got a pistol shrimp two weeks ago to match with my YWG. For the past few days I haven't heard him snap nor have I seen any new construct. My YWG have been staying in the same burrow but I haven't seen the shrimp or any sand movement near him. Today I looked under all the rockwork, looking for him or new tunnels. I also looked in the sump/fuge with no luck. I did not see him nor any signs that hes alive. Any suggestion on next steps or who could have killed him?

Tank mates/specs
- Arc eye hawkfish
- two clowns
- Bicolor gramma
- Yellow watchmen goby
- Pencil Urchin
- three emerald crabs
- Usual snail crew

32 gal biocube with intank upgrades

Do you see a molt? Mine becomes especially inactive right after molt and disappears for a few days. Since its 2 weeks old, usually new environments induce a molting.

It snaps usually to protect its turf so if nothings bothering it, it doesn't need to snap

It may be molting and will hide 24-36 hours

I only see my pistol shrimp every few months. I rarely hear him snap. Don't give up.
The only issue with it is that I know the arc eye is known for eating shrimp. Also wouldn't I see him when i flipped everything over?

No molt on the sandbed or under the rocks

huh, might just be a hard molt....

don’t feed the tank for a day,
then the following day, later in the afternoon,
feed and observe closely...

you ought to hear clicking
(if it’s still alive)

Im hoping its just a long molt... I tried that but the YWG usually feeds him and the YWG was only eating for himself (not taking constant trips to the burrow with shrimp in tow). I guess the arc eye might have to go

I have a couple of wrasses that also could be guilty but mine has survived for about three years. He also moved from one end of the tank to another.

Ever have it go ima like this

Thats what I was thinking but 5 days with no snapping, sand movement, molt and nothing under the rocks doesn't make me too confident in that anymore

Cool 900 build btw

I bought a yasha and candy pistol 2 weeks ago and I’m only starting to see the yasha come out the last few days.
I’ve never seen the pistol shrimp. But not too concerned. Hopefully it will pop out soon enough.
I have a question. So the gobies help feed the shrimp?? I’ve seen my goby grab a large mysis go back into his home and come back out with no food in his mouth??
