So....I don't have a RO/DI water system so I've been relying on store bought to make SW. Everyone is out. Shelves are empty. My tank is crashing

I’ve seen people recommend distilled water, which it sounds like what you may be taking about as I’ve never seen ro/di on any shelves for sale around here. Did you contact fish stores around you? Petco has premixed saltwater for sale if it’s an emergency situation

And no your tank isn’t crashing...

Maybe the OP's system was already crashing and they're saying they need SW for water changes, not that it's crashing due to lack of RO?

Sure that's one possibility

Just trying to figure it out.
Also my recommendation would be the same, if you can't get purified water and absolutely need it then use Prime to make tap relatively more safe.

Tap water plus prime, you will eat some phosphates and other slightly heavy metals, but it won't kill your tank. I know a person locally that runs a full SPS system off tap water and prime.

Time for an rodi system? If you're local I can get you some water.

NJ here I have over 50 gallons of RODI stored up. if you are close by let me know I don’t mind giving you some.

I have an old system you can have, come and get it.

Sorry u don't say, are you changing or just adding? When and before I got RO sys, I used tap water plus Prime, I now have well water no need when jus topping off.

Thanks for the advice! I have a bottle of instant Ocean marine conditioner, but if Prime is what I need I can order that. What happened was i had a, happy tank, with crystal clear water, and some thriving caulerpa. Cycled 4 months ago. Then I added a bunch of red and brown gracilaria Macro for beauty and nutrient reduction. All the new macro turned grey/disintegrated. And the original caulerpa did as well. Mushrooms and Xenia closed up and one PJ cardinal died.
Did a 20% change with tap water and Instant Ocean Marine Conditioner today, and removed all macro except a few living pieces.
Will order some Prime. Thank you all!!!

I have used distilled water successfully.... Target, Walmart, Cvs.....

Yeah that's probably not gonna happen for a while.

To the OP, prime is best by far, but basically just a dechlorinator and ammonia detoxifier is what is needed at least. I hope everything recovers!
