Caribsea LifeRock

I have had encrusting monti's / leptos / etc. grow on carib sea shape rock with no issues what so ever. I also have not experienced any of the fading / coloration issues and the rocks became covered in coralline relatively quickly.

That’s good to hear. I wonder if the composition is different?

I’m hoping to hear from someone who has had sps encrust on the regular life rock.

From a composition standpoint they both should be the same, I have both and they feel / act exactly the same. I have also had acropora's encrust fabulously with no issues as well.

From a composition standpoint..... Mines falling apart.....

Must be from excessive snail traffic..... [emoji12]

But hey maybe it's engineered to generate reef rubble?

Any tank shots you’d be willing to share? I’d like to see the shapes combined with the regular rock.

That’s bizarre. Sorry to hear that.

Can anyone share info regarding corals encrusting on this rock? I’m upgrading from a 75 to a 160 gallon display, and I’d like to add life rock to go along with the 80 pounds of real reef that will be transferred over. I’ve had the real reef in use for about 3 years. Life rock is literally half the price of real reef at my LFS, so I’d prefer to go that route.

Of course I can’t find it now, but someone posted here that coral would not encrust on his life rock. I think he’d had it for two years at that point.

Any info would be appreciated.

I have Caribsea liferock mixed with old dry rock and my corals encrust fine on both.

It did lose a lot of the color, but still made the tank look better in my opinion.

It's all good, some people have had it worse than me. Their Life Rock just disintegrated to rubble and chunks..

The bad thing is CaribSea will not stand behaving NFL the product, I've got 700.00 invested into this garbage and am a little annoyed since I've been using their substrates since I began in the hobby back in 80's. It's is just frustrating when you support a company for so long and you have a legitimate problem and they don't care..

No tank shots unfortunately as we just moved and broke down our 180. But we have a 360 arriving end of April and will be scaping it entirely with carib sea life rock / shape rock. We picked up a few of the new 24" and 36" arches so once we get that scape done I'll be sure to post some pictures.

What exactly are they using as the dye, does anyone know?
