What is going on here? Just came home to this, did a water change this morning and change out the phosguard. Before and right after he was fine. That was about 5 hours ago.

It looks like it's either moved in between two rocks!! And I'm not sure about this but is it's mouth turning inside out?? I say just give it time to flatten it's self out and then observe it's mouth to see if it looks like it's turning inside out!! Maybe it's just moving to a more comfortable spot in your tank??

Its foot is buried under that rock. Has been for almost a month after roaming to find that spot. Looks to me like the mouth is turning inside out as well, but then the under side of the tentacles looks swollen as well. This morning it looked perfect. Spread out, thin, tight closed mouth.

It is in a QT tank/ ready tank. I plan to transfer all rock over to the new tank with other established rock.

That said, cause I know its to small, it is a 20long. One mp10, hob filter with phosguard, hob skimmer. There really is plenty of gentle movement in the tank, though not enough to ruffle the anemone up.

About 1 hour after the water change
Salinity. 34 ppm
Cal 390
Mag 1500
Alk 9.8 dkh
Nitrate 3 ppm
Phosphate .10 ppm

All tests red sea except phosphate which is Hanna checker. .10 is why I changed the phosguard out.

Yes I agree. But why AFTER I change the water and phosguard did this become a issue, not before. That is what I don't get.

Phosphate I agree, but I thought 3 ppm on trate was decent. Lower the better, but not bad.

Well mouth is still tight. Good sign I hope.

Bond, I am not touching a thing. Anything I do may just upset the issue more.

And phosphates are really high As stated above by others!! That may be the cause of this nem acting like this if I were you run lots of carbon and your already running Phosguard which is great but keep a close eye on it!! It doesn't look good from the pic you posted!! And as for you doing the water change and adding Phosguard it was already high when you caught it!! So give the water time to Clean and then test again in the next 4-5hours if the Phosphate has gone down after testing you may want to change out the Phosgaurd due to high Phosphate level and you don't want to have that Phosguard to leach back into your system!! IMO

Water change was this morning with tests a couple hours after that. Just checked phosphate levels, they are now at .04 ppm.

Nice that phosphates got in control real quik (I would change out the Phosguard and add new)!! Now the other thing is where the "Burst" of phosphates are coming from?? And if you have been keeping up with your system or just kinda been ignoring it?? Be honest I've done it and every reefer has done it either because we work too much or just simply gotten lazy and thought if all livestock looks good then water should be good?? If your husbandry has been up to date then something in your tank or Air has leached into your water?? You Must find the source or risk stressing your nem and or other livestock I the future!!
But give the nem time and hopefully it jumps back for a full recovery!! Keep us posted?? Glad to hear the good news on lowering your phosphates!!

I have often worried or wondered if my rock isn't leaching the phosphate. My predator tank looked like a overgrown cat until I took to phosguard and carbon dosing.

Honestly I have been diligent about water changes. Phosguard...well let's say I was out. Last real testing was on 9-27 and phosphate was .03 then. Just goes to show me that I need to keep up on it more. Will keep posted, hopefully with another pic of a happy nem again.

I'm not,.....an expert with my carpet, but l really don't think it's the nitrate or phosphate, as there not high enough to cause a serious issue.
I had mine In a tank with 25-30ppm for 2 months, with no ill affects. I was freaking out when mine would be in odd shape, thinking something was wrong and it's dying but the next day it looked fine. After several months I got used to it changing shape's, so maybe yours is doing the same ?

The question,..... if yours is about his mouth, is it really turned inside out ?
Have you fed it or has it ate something it shouldn't have ?

One of my branching SPS's fell onto my Carpet, but I saw it right away, so with some patience I was able to remove it without doing damage to the carpet.
I've seen some that are always spread out and never move, but others that change shape and move. Mine has not moved from the day I placed it where I wanted it.

Keep everything the same, like lighting and the water movement.

So, keep an eye on his mouth and maybe he's just being a carpet.

Hopeful you are right 427, his mouth at last look was still closed tight. It hasn't ate anything within the last two weeks, was actually thinking about feeding him again. Only fish are the two clowns and they are accounted for.

Mine seems to like to move once a month or so, wish it wouldn't. But I haven't seen this before. I have tried carpets before, this is the first I have kept one alive even this long, and I have never seen this before. It isn't the usually mouth gape, belly inside out, death is imminent type look.
