Carpet anemone...worth it?

I personally do not see a need to QT a nem, unless you're doing the prophylactic Cipro treatment. Common parasites like marine ich, Brooklynella need a longer fallow period. An Anemone will only transfer the parasite via water transmission since anemones are not a vector.

If you have an existing anemone in the tank, I would QT any new ones. Personally lost a red S. haddoni and a 12 year old tan one to a newly purchased one that was infected.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the E. quadricolor. I have yet to hear anything about a transfer from a "carpet" to one of those.

Carpets do as they want! Sticky little things. Smaller clowns will glide across it (accepting) both clown an Nem. Anything else, bye bye. As far as QT I never QT any of my corals, I buy from LFS that I've been dealing with. A few drops of iodine will do the trick if you are worried.

Question to all....can I feed this guy frozen, cooked, bagged shrimp? I fed em mysis the other day and it seemed like he ate it, but I have a bag of the frozen stuff and I was thinking about giving him something a lil meatier without having to go out and buying some food.,

Raw thawed meaty sea food, fish, shrimp, scallops....do not do silver sides.

I haven't directly fed any of my S. haddonis over the last 1.5 years.

Back when I did, I use frozen (( thawed )) krill. If you are going to directly feed it, smaller pieces more frequently is better than larger pieces less frequently. If you see a waste ball a day or two after feeding, you are feeding it pieces that are too large. You don't want undigested pieces fouling the internal water of the anemone.

Currently I have a tomato clown in that tank. My lfs has an "aggressive" clarkii that he can't sell....I'm gonna see if he'll trade it with me...

Update....the nem ate 2 green chromis and I witnessed him eating my serpent star...the fish just disappeared and the star....I grabbed a hold of his "arm" and began to tug a little....any harder and I would've ripped it off....this guy did not want to let go....in the end it was too late

That definitely looks like a Haddoni, I've had a green one for little over 2 years and yes they can eat your fish, inverts and other things but do some research and you will be OK. As of qt lighting a carpet nem is gonna need some light maybe someone has a clip on halide to borrow for a bit. Fwiw mine doesn't like leds compared to halides and loves a chunk of shrimp every few days

Mine tried to eat my urchin, the anemone tried for 10 min to take in the urchin, finally it spit the urchin out. The urchin was stung and stunned but recovered in a day. The anemone also ate 2 domino damsels that tried to reside too quickly. The third damsel did live happily in the anemone though. I would not trust a Haddoni with expensive clowns initially, it only takes one second if the fish is not acclimated to the anemone.

Right now I have him under a kessil a360we.....he seems to be ok nice n green n fat.....but he is sort of tucked semi behind a rock.....do you think he doesn't like it? I'll post up a new pick tonight

My carpet walked for a while but he found where he wanted to be in the end. Haddoni like to keep their foot deep under something to protect it, mine even moved rockwork to get a spot he liked. Kessils should definitely be enough light as long as his mouth is closed and sticky you should be fine

I have 2 and love them It houses 2 anemone crab and hosts a pair of black saddle back clowns... Red one ate a percula and purple/blue ate a chromis I have corals in the sandbed as I'm waiting for them to permanently attach their foot on the glass floor.. The red already did and haven't moved at all just the blue is unsure yet..it is stressful to have them as they can move anytime but I chose to have them and I'm not regretting... They are very pretty and makes me happy

Update....so to date, he (the nem) has eaten all my fish.....3x green chromis, starfish and recently my tomato clown. its a good and bad thing....bad obviously because i have to host several funeral memorials in my house for my losses (j/k) but good because now that the tank is empty, it gave me a chance to re-aqua-scape the tank. my question now is what fish can safely co-exist with the carpet in this now empty 72gal bowfront? i was thinking about a few clarkii's but with that, should there be a certain number limit i should be mindful about?

Where did you get those @ladyreefer1983 ? I'm thinking of getting either a blue, red, or green carpet. No fish in my tank yet either.

I finally picked up 2 clarkii's....they both started hosting this guy the next day
