Carx on a low demand tank?

Thats what im worried about with kalk! The evaporation... would it be an issue? aswell should i use 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of top off water since i have such low demand? and last question! do i bring up my parameters to where i need it and then start kalk?

1/2 tsp is a good starting point, evaporation rate and mineral demand are factors that will determine how much you should add, which is why accurate test kits are important, test regularly for the first week or so and adjust as needed.

I recommend a reliable ATO system such as a Tunze osmolator when using kalkwasser, I do not recommend simple mechanical float switches, unless there is a second/emergency shut off for redundancy.

Kalkwasser is also a great compliment to calcium reactors down the road when you have a very high mineral demand, you wont have to tune the reactor as aggressively, it also helps mitigate the very slight lowering of pH from the calcium reactor.

Its also the "OG" or original way of maintaining calcium and alkalinity in reef aquariums, back in the 1980s a fella in Germany named Peter Wilkens (often touted as the godfather of modern reefkeeping) was the first to advocate its use, and even today its still one of the best ways to help maintain cal/carbonate in reef aquariums.
