Will chaeto grow properly with just the red lights you see on many algae turf scrubbers?

What about a bulb like this?

I use 660nm deep red just like my scrubber. I use higrow & abi 660nm bulbs. My buddy runs a ufo 660nm 150w.

Heres the higrow 36w before my scrubber busted a seam.

Blue or red or cool white. Works out the same and cheato don't care.

Graphs like these are nice as a general guideline for picking a light color for chaeto and other green algaes

I got that same amazong red light - but I can't get my cheato to grow at all. It's browning out. Can the light be TOO close? I'd say it's 8in above the water surface and there's a decent current going.

I've got nitrates/phosphates nice and elevated (trying to fight dinos). What's the secret to getting this stuff to grow?

Possibly iron. You can buy cheato grow also.

You could probably grow cheato just from the ambient light from that thing lol.
Lol. Probably could. I have the hooks on it. Just trying to decide on the best way to mount it and a way to block the light from spreading to other chambers

Mine is about 8" above the water as well. My return pump is in the middle of my sump and the line has a t and a ball valve to control flow to the refugium. Have about 800gph going to the main tank and about 100‐150gph going through the refugium
