Chaeto recovery time after using UWC Vibrant?

You just gave me an idea how to investigate this. I am gearing up to experiment on Chaetomorpha. I will try to get one Chaetomorpha clump stalled but living with Vibrant and cultivate it one that has not seen Vibrant and see if the Vibrant migrates over and stalls the growth on the clean Chaetomorpha clump. Many “if’s and’s and but’s” to sort out.

I can provide a "stalled" clump. Stopped vibrant in January-ish 2021. It just seems to sit there. I've dosed iron, used white light and then a pink plant growing light, tried increased flow, and even tried Cheatogrow. Dada! Let me know when and where.

Edit: Stopped January-ish 2022

It's been doing this for over a year?!

Sorry, just edited my post. I stoped in January 2022. I had cut back a lot prior to that, but didn't quit completely until then. Still 3.5 to 4 months and many water changes would seem like enough.
Ah, that's a relief. You had me worried. Seems like there's several of us on roughly the same timeline. I hope together we can get this figured out. Just completely unacceptable that they sell this stuff.

I can safely say that adding fresh chaeto to a system that has used vibrant will stall the fresh stuff out despite months of carbon and heavy water changes. Interested to see the first half of said experiment though.
Thanks! The experiments will take some weeks to complete but they will be done.

That would be great contribution! I’ll PM you.

Dan. I was thinking of you when reading your post on the vibrant thread as we were discussing this! If needed I can give you my stalled golf ball of cheato as well. It would just take some time as I am leaving for Belize scuba diving in a few days!

Jealous! We getting a thread on that?

Many thanks!

ReefGeezer will send me some stalled Chaeto which should be enough. I will contact you if I need another sample.

Enjoy scuba diving!

Update! so I just got back from my dive vacation and low and behold golf ball sized cheato has grown over double in size since I left 12 days ago. This is exactly 5 months after my last dose of Vibrant!! Btw the diving in Belize Grover’s Toll. Was AMAZING!!!!

Glad to hear about the macro and the successful dive! We just got back from a long weekend in DC and my fuge is still not doing much. I'm a few months behind you so hopefully soon enough.

Well, I was changing out the roll on my filter roller earlier and bumped in to something unknown behind it. Never a good feeling coming in to something unaccounted for where you can't see it in your reef tank right? I pulled it out and it was the newer wad of chaeto and it's maybe 4x the size it was! Certainly not the monstrous growth I had before Vibrant but it appears that around the 5 month mark is where mine is starting to grow as well! So excited and relieved.

Maybe there is something magical about the 5 month mark! Lol

As much as I'm relieved to be recovering from this finally, I hope that our two anecdotal experiences answer the question for someone in the future. Pretty close experiences with this timeline! It does make me wonder if there's some kind of breakdown in the residual Vibrant effects around 5 months though that would cause such a similar recovery period. I would have guessed it would vary wildly to be honest.

I have a Red Sea Peninsula 650 with an good size refugium in the sump. I have been growing chaeto for a long time and harvesting it by the trash bag on a monthly basis. Two months ago I made a rash decision to dose Vibrant and had predictable results. The chaeto hasn't completely died but isn't growing and is slowly decaying. There's a good amount left but I rely on only my fuge and skimmer for export. The tank is still happy and nitrates are where I want them to be but phosphates are slowly climbing without the macro growth occurring. I've done several sizeable water changes in the meantime to help it recover but it's slow going.

What I would like to hear from the community specifically is how long it took that macro in the fuge to recover and start growing again so I can plan accordingly and take some alternate steps for phosphate removal until the chaeto can resume it's work. Let's keep it civil please. This question and subsequent answers are important to me right now so I'd rather not get my thread shut down due to dogpiling the product.
Mine never bounced back... twice. Couldn't figure out what the problem was until the truth came out that this was an algaecide. Once I found out about it being snakewater, it all made sense. I was adding the stuff last year and had no idea why my chaeto was dying, or at best, stalling. No idea how long it will take to bounce back, if ever. Would have to agree to w/RHF; probably best to start over with a new batch since it's been a couple months w/water changes, nutrients notwithstanding.

I did try new batches twice during that period and never grew I just was stalled. I actually took out my cheato before I started and tried to put back in 1 month after I stopped vibrant. I was aware of the algeacide of vibrant. Read way too much of those threads! Lol. Are you saying even after a year you still can’t get it to grow yet?
