Chaeto turning white

Chaeto is dying of. Either because you are not lighting it up properly or because it is in an area with not enough water flow through it. I would not leave it in your fuge or sump if it is dying off.

How old is your tank, whats your feeding schedule and, do you feed your chaeto some phyto or not? Further, is it at the return section?
Tanks about 6 months old I only feed 1
Once a day and it’s in my Refugium which takes up 90% of the sump

Chaeto will die off anyhow, it's a normal process. If the chaeto is taking up 90% of your sump, you probably need to trim it down. I run triton method on my 120g DT, and I use chaeto as recommended by Triton Lab. I trim the chaeto every time it gets to be close to 50% of the size of my allocated space for it in my sump. You can either sell it, take to your LFS for store credit or throw it away (make sure you wash/shake it first to leave the most of your micro fauna in your sump). Having that said, if you have your chaeto taking up 90% of it's space, it is not tumbling or not getting enough flow through it, but again, some die off is necessary to release sugars in your system, which will further feed your corals. It's normal, but not in a big scale.

I hope I did not make you more confused lol

You only need 2 things for chaeto to grow and live.

Light, and nutrients (nitrates and phosphates).

Same thing has happened to many people whose nutrients are too low, including me. It end up dying and releasing the nutrients back into the tank.

What are your nitrate and phosphate readings and what test kits are you using?

No hAhaha it’s only about half a gallon ziplock bag full in a Refugium that is about 30 inches of a 36 in tank

Good point, I just assumed he has enough nutrients to feed the chaeto.

I bet it’s not enough nutrients I have 2 fish and feed once a day

I just added chaeto in my tank and part of it is losing Color, basically white and falling apart !!
I added chaeto to the small sump area in the back of my biocube and attached an Innovative Marine Inm LED Chaetomax Refugium 9w light to the back of my tank - shining into the sump at point blank distance. My chaeto bleached too.

I believe it is because of either too much light (being specialized lighting at point blank range) or not enough flow. I have moved the IM light to the wall behind the tank - giving me about 3-4 inches between the light and the sump - and I will let you know if that makes a positive change.

The flow through my biocube sump is minimal - so that will be where I go next should the change in lighting not help. Good luck!

Id consider feeding some phyto. Aquavitro(Seachem) recently came out with a very good product too address this need, see below:

triphytogen
triphytogen™ is a premium live concentration blend (70–120 million cells per milliliter) of Nannochloropsis, Isochrysis, and Tetraselmisphytoplankton.

and

triphytogen™ concentrate
triphytogen™ concentrate is a premium live concentration blend (0.7 - 1 billion cells per milliliter) of Nannochloropsis, Isochrysis, and Tetraselmisphytoplankton.

and

phytogen™
phytogen™ is a premium live concentration (50–100 million cells per milliliter) of Nannochloropsis phytoplankton.

and

phytogen™ concentrate
phytogen™ concentrate is a premium live concentration (0.5 – 1 billion cells per milliliter) of Nannochloropsis phytoplankton.

I've used them, pretty good!

He is not running Triton. It’s a small tank.

Chaeto is primarily used for nutrient control. It’s most likely a lack of nutrients and adding that stuff does not fix his problem.
