So I got a few chalices and some are doing great and some horrible...
My stoplight loves to be blasted with lights and is happy..;)
vivid watermeleon is so so it looks kinda transparent but has some awesome colors, currently it sits in the sand any suggestions on lighting for it???
Also got pink ******* where do I place it??
Og mummy eye where do I place it??? Lol
and I got a few no names but there good...
My worst is a bgm I can't find a happy spot for it no where, any suggestions???
Thanks guys...

I place most of my chalice on the bottom. ME's can take a bit more light - as can Pink *******. Most watermelons prefer lower light to retain the colors. There are some exceptions though. What lights are you running Troy?

Just saw your lighting post...lol I would keep them at the bottom. They should color up nicely there. Once you get the radiums, just keep them towards the bottom. With a 24" depth, it's probably the best place for them...

Not sure about the jelly look : ) Got a pic? Do you mean more of a "puffy" look to the tissue?

If you can see through the tissue, then that's another problem all together...

Well some are puffy and some seem to be deflated I guess... My bgm was all but dead when I got it and it has turned green but I can't get the eyes to color there almost transparent looking like you can see threw them..If I knew how to use my darn camera I could get a pic lol... I can't figure out all the adjustments..:(

Some chalices are more "puffy" than others. And some deflate when Mag is low or if they are in too high a flow area. As for your BGM, as long as the tissue is green and healthy looking, you should be fine. It may be that the eyes are forming and they haven't fully colored up yet. Anytime you bring a chalice back from the dead, it always takes it a while to get back to normal coloration - and that includes the eyes.

My mag stays rite above 1200 you think I should try to bump it up to 1350 or 1400???
It's tuff man I run a ulns and my sps thrive but lps seem to be hating me lol... I lost some cool acans that I got awhile back and I think my water is just to clean to be honest... I'm very anal about my tank since I got 3 kids and they destroy everything else all I got is my tank that stays nice and pretty lol...;)

Yeah, I had issues keeping acans when I was dosing vodka too. Others, like SunnyX keeps them and they thrive...I just couldn't keep them happy. Chalices def like a higher Mag level. I would say above 1350 would be a good start. My chalices did just fine when I was dosing vodka but I was feeding spot feeding them daily....so that may be why. I'm completely OCD when it comes to my tank as well - I totally understand. : )

Agreed on the bottom placement or bottom 6-8" area of the tank with your BGM I'd find a place that is in indirect light it will then feed off of your actinics more then the halides this worked for mine as well as my Tyree water Mellon and agreed on the others such as your pink ******* and so on they should be fine with direct light out on the sandbed somewhere I've also found that some of my best results with chalices is just place em and forget about it they'll do their thinG

Oh no, were those the acans from me?? I keep my water fairly dirty cuz of all the feedings. On the chalice topic, I have had varying luck with them. I have had chalice frags come in with little slivers of the same chalice at the bottom of the shipping bag that broke off and actually do way better than the frag itself. I have found that sometimes they just are not happy even when frags off the same piece are very happy. They are definitely finicky

Unfortunatly yes Kris.... Everything else is doing great and encrusted and took off...:(

red colors like high light and other other colors dont like so much light.. =) This is just from my experience.
Thanks for the heads up mike... It's pretty cool to see vendors surf the boards and help out... Big shout out to sexy corals!!!!!;)

i have mine on the sand bed.....made the mistake of putting them up high....BLEACHED!!!

I've bleached several by putting them too high, even after they've been in my tank for a long time. Many really just like the floor, much to my aesthetic chagrin :crossedlips:

I have had horrid luck with my Metal Halide. I am using a 250W 20K XM bulb, on a 60 gallon cube, 24" deep. I had a few chalices just flat out die, some lost their color in certain spots (bleached), and some look healthy but are not growing. A few of the ones that were looking real bad I moved over to my 46 gallon 4 x T5HO tank and they recover.

Didnt mean to high jack your thread, but just letting you know that I have had similar problems and this was one way I went at resolving them.
