a lot of its just trust and reputation. so the buyer should make sure its the same coral by doing some research because buyers can make mistakes. if you're not sure than don't buy it. there is some appeal and lineage thats necessary for some corals because they can morph in others tanks and the name is being used for a variety of corals like the red dragon from citr, j. nguyen with the miyagi tort and tong's tropical fish and the rainbow stylo

There is people and venders I would pay a premium because it is from them and they are trustable and I'm buying a name because I like the coral/name. There are venders I will buy from if its a great deal or I like the coral for it's colors and could care less if it has a fancy name. Then there is venders that I wouldn't take a free box of corals from. I'm pretty sure thats with ever one. You fall into a "Trust" with a vender/venders until something happens and you cant trust them. I mean If I buy a expensive frag like any one i'm sure " Hey, I have never tried company "X" there reviews are so so let me go send him 350 for a frag", No, more of the " I have done business with company "X" he/she has always been great let me order with them" is more likely t cross your mind.

I understand what u guys mean about trust and I feel the same way about having trust in the people you buy from. Mainly I was referring to the technical way of "knowing" it's from the original lineage. As the OP mentioned "showing proof" of some way its orginal. Like in a murder trial don't you need evidence to prove its real or do you take the "guys" word for it. Or showing papers from an original dog breeder, a form of documented proof. Just as mentioned above by Steezy, corals morph and can change and grow and you trade frags with out reefers. Does it make it any less of the original than before because you didn't buy it directly from the original vendor or the "trust" person?
This has always made me think of all the routes a coral can take from its original origin. And if your wondering I do have some named corals in my tank, but most of my purchases begin with " I gotta have that" or can my wallet support that. Lol just have always wanted to ask these questions to good serious reefers which seems like reef2reef has a good amount.

I still think its all crap, How do you really know? Because someone said so? It all comes back to if you like it period. Really if its a JF piece it should cost more? I dont agree with any of you guys. If I like it ,I buy it . Easy as that.
