Well i can only tell you that the recipe above does not make the same thing. I might or might not get a result using it but a straight switch saw an immediate rise in my nitrates.
I like the KISS approach so I just dose vinegar and call it a day. No formulas and widely available. Takes a while to get it going but once it there, just keep dosing. Added benefit it doesn’t cost much.
Does dosing distilled vinegar also takes care of Po4 or just No3?

Must be the missing acetone.Well i can only tell you that the recipe above does not make the same thing. I might or might not get a result using it but a straight switch saw an immediate rise in my nitrates.

All organic carbon dosing (NOPOX, vinegar, vodka, etc.) is skewed toward nitrate removal due to the potential for denitrification, a process that reduces nitrate and not phosphate, but it will have some effect on both.![]()
So mainly, Vinegar dosing reduces No3 and a little on Po4?
I will try dosing Vinegar and measure it closely.
FWIW, that discussion will really only help you make a DIY NOPOX, not really to distinguish whether such a method is better or worse than a different method, such as vinegar alone.
Both ways work well, but there are differences that may impact different systems in different ways (for example, whether there are unsightly species of bacteria already in your tank that are driven by either method)
From my original question this was the reason I personally decided to stay with NoPox as I didn’t want to risk feeding some other possibly unwanted species in my system and causing problems.
I went with the phrase ‘if it isn’t broke......’
Hi everyone
I’m in the processed of making Nopox recipe above mention
NOPOX, you can always make your own by taking 500 mls vinegar (5%), 375 mls vodka (80 proof), and 125 mls RO/DI. This formula was determined by NMR analysis.
Nitrate ~50ppm,would like to low < 25ppm
Will report in a month
