Chasing coral reefs Netflix documentary

The saddest thing I’ve watched in a long time. Worst part of this is the knowledge that people are still claiming this is a natural occurrence despite the facts. Future for reefs looks bleak.

Omg watch it watch it watch it more. Then tell every dang person you know and hope they see what we do. Crazy hard for me to watch but omg

Thanks for the tip. Added to my list and will watch tomorrow (it's 1:30am here lol).

I guess it will be hard to watch... And yet, I'm sure the ones that say there's no global warming will call it "fake news" :(

@revhtree Have you seen this movie yet?

We have a large community here and even larger within the hobby, lets put our minds together to help spread the word and make a change. You have done some amazing things with this community, lets put something together and ill be the first to lend my hand.

Support your local government on green initiatives. They in turn influence global warming, which in turn effects water temperature. Thats one part of it, on global scale, to deal with rising temperature. Ocean pollution on the other hand has less initiatives to tackle it. I know at least one person is working on large scale ocean debris clean up, you can donate on that https://www.theoceancleanup.com/

I do not think we can save all sentinel beings from ever changing environment. Looking at our own projected population:
A combined effort to captive propagated coral along side preserving some natural habitat might work out better

We need to act NOW or it'll be too late. The movie was sad and alarm-ringing. Was holding my tears looking at these beautiful reefs bleaching, struggling, and eventually dying. If we truly love the very thing in this hobby and care about reefs and ecosystems and our children, we all need to think about the things we can do to reduce our own CO2 contribution, spread awareness, and VOTE for policies that will help combat climate change. Yes it's now down to individual. We can consume less meat, use more public transportation, support gas to EV transitioning. And yes, it is political. Regardless of your position on political spectrum, the water is getting hotter and corals are dying; these are the facts. We carry the responsibility to protect the very earth we are on and preserve its beautiful yet extremely important ecosystems.

To blame a single politician or goverment while consuming luxuries, driving suv's, running an A/C because we are a to little warm, having to support a reef tank while watching reality tv etc... is very contradictory.

Not one person on this water filled rock doesn't contribute to environmental damage

Agreed, but as the question in this thread: Where do we START, in order to make a change? It involves everyone in the planet including local, state, and federal government as they hold the power [emoji849]

Just so everyone knows, coral reefs have been documented as having significant decreases for the last 3 years. Making the start of this major decline occurring during who's administration??

To get back on track the lfs in the movie is Elite Reef, a Denver-Metro shop. I have brought frags there for credit (not too many times as it's far from me) but that is one way to help conservation. My usually shops get about 100 or so frags from me per quarter, that has to amount to something.

Lol placing the blame, typical...

That's why the previous administration enacted tough environmental policies. To help combat the issue. It's been happening for decades, so while your at it blame , bush, Clinton, Obama, Reagan, etc

Why is this administration dismantling them?

It's a known fact the ocean are warming, affecting sea life, pollutants are wreaking havoc yet, let's just keep polluting the water even more!!
The point of my post was not to blame any administration for the decline of the coral reefs. It was to point out the ridiculousness of some other posters of doing so in this thread. I'm not a global warming denier. But short of banning worldwide the use of fossil fuels, there is little ANY administration can do about it. And unless people in here are getting 100% of the electricity to run their tanks from solar panels (if you are, that is awesome!), then NO ONE in here is in a place to point fingers.

Im all for preserving nature and saving "the world". However blaming a single person (trump) is foolish and shortsighted. Per most current data available, US puts out 15% of the world's greenhouse gasses. Compare that to 30% for China, and 15% for India and Russia combined. That's 1/4th for the US and 3/4 for countries who just don't care and will continue to develop and grow, moving the ratio (and raw production up).
The reality is that while we here in the US fight and bicker about gas taxes, greenhouse production and other such things, the politicians who propose these "world saving" initiatives, continue to fly private jets, live in giant mansions and know that for all the wool that is pulled over the US populace, these changes just don't make a large enough difference to matter because the rest of the world producers will just make more.

Instead of discussing real issues that affect quality of life like Monsanto for example, we argue about the amount water you use while washing dishes and flushing toilets....
