Anyone think this purchase is a bad idea? Probably will order it otherwise. It says 858par @60cm (~2ft). Of course I won't run it full intensity on my 10 gallon ;p aiming to tune it around 175-250 par.

Yea. It's fine. But look at the SBreeflight.
It's just few bucks more yes but really well worth it. Warranty a guy you can actually call and I really like mine.
Like really really
Really.

I will recommend MARS aqua in this group as more people already used it and you can get it from Ebay

Thanks. I just searched them on Amazon. Only a few things came up. Actually my primary focus is buying on Amazon since I currently have $150 in gift cards from my reception.

Looks good to me I had an older style one same colors and dimmable over a 10 gallon and could've easily cooked some sps lol. I now have 2 over my 72g tank and I grow some sps on the very bottom which the tank is 23 inches deep and the lights are 4 inches off the surface.

Anyway I think this would be more then fine for anything you wanted to do in a 10g

That's what I'm saying ;) it may be small but I'm going to put some light hogs in that thing. Then when I upgrade to a 40G breeder or anything else I could take this light with me.

I checked the Mars brand. But it seems like the lense on the LEDs are different on this fixture? Idk it is saying it gets a lot more par. It's why I'm hesitent.

They come with 90 degree lense which is better as they dont spread out a lot and stay concentrated. Also you can change those lenses easier later depending upon your need.

Imo, it's probably the same as the Mars or really similar. I'm sure it will work fine but grab a par meter to check the intensity.

On another note Ocean revive is a good brand if you want to use them. How big is your tank and what are the dimensions?

Ya aren't par meters like $200++? I have a $20 lux meter if that'll work? They say lux/54 = par for sunlight. Hard to find exact numbers to use though.. Have to divide somewhere between 40-70.

I'd pass on that one. It has too many red/green LED's and not enough blues.

Would all blue be a bad idea? I know red can cause algae but not sure what is proper mix...

Can you put the lux meter under water? I say this because I see a lot of posts about lux meters and conversions but don't see many lux meters you can use under water(if any). To me lux meters don't tell me much. But yea par meters are 350ish, see if someone in your club has one, and no I would not just go blue and white, these bb's with red and green have better spectrum.

Dimensions? Tiny ;p 10G (20" x 11" x 13"??)
Ok...you are good with a MARs to start with and it will grow almost everything but not very high end acros. You will not need to use it beyond 60% efficiency.

That one looks better. It's missing UV/Violet which would help with coloring, but the neutral whites would probably have enough of the red spectrum to satisfy corals.

A lux meter is a fine alternative to a PAR meter to start. It will give you a good idea of what your surface PAR is and you can estimate from there. For a 10G tank the dropoff isn't going to be huge.

You will need some red and green to complete the full spectrum of lighting and I think all of them comes with 4 red LED and 2 green and thats not much. As far algae concern if you are good with your maintenance just putting 4 leds will not grow algae in your tank trust me.
