Choosing lighting! help

I disagree and agree.
The current USA lights are great for everything but SPS and clams.
@120reefkeeper has not said/proven that these lights will work long term.
I used them on softies and lps, but they couldn’t support sps.
Just my 2 cents!

Every one has their thoughts but here is my tank that’s 240 gallons 14 months old growing a Maximus clam 24 inches down and my tank is 34 tall. I also have mostly sps and lps. So here is proof they do actually grow clams and sps as fast and or not better than hydra Radion and kessill. So again as stated depending on the version current usa will absolutely grow clams and sps very quickly and produce amazingly colors. Name and price are not everything, and if the op looks for lights that they find good then that’s what needs to happen. But to say they don’t work for you is not accurate because here is proof they will grow corals just as good as the g4 radions and hydras. My coral didn’t just grow because I have good luck. They grow because of number of things one of them are the lights. The 4117 are very powerful and more durable and resilient compared to others.

At least current usa will replace your light for free no questions if you drop it in the water and fry it. I have yet to see Ecotech or hydra provide that kind of service. Again everyone can have their thoughts that’s normal. But to say they won’t grow sps or clams is just false.

I am still in the proving phase ... this is true. I must say so far so good. I wouldn’t go as far as to say long term yet, but I haven’t had any issues yet . [emoji6]

Hello,

First welcome to R2R lots of lovely people and lots of info. It’s awesome that there is another girl and even better she plays with legos :) so much fun.

So this question from @AquariumDani is kinda a loaded question. Way too many opinions and or options etc and taste. All of them are good and valid and all are the worse and the greatest. I highly suggest some research, such as visiting your local aquarium or viewing other tanks. Find some that you like based on visual and color. All of these are good lights but they vary greatly in color of corals. One may be super blue others may be natural, but what are your likes.

You mentioned price point, of less than 300. Yes people will throw eggs and argue with me, but lol I can support what I offer. I would go with the current marine pro loop granted you may or may not go larger and you stick with softies and lps. They can handle some lower sps, but any clams or higher corals you will need the model 4117 60 degree version for success. If you look @120reefkeeper his tank is amazing and uses these lights. Current usa also has thee best service I have seen on anything. You could go up to probably a 90 gallon with these, but anything larger is pushing it. There are some other leds but most of the ones mentioned you will need two of them, with your tank a 20 long you will have too much shadow on the ends. That’s with the hydra 26 prime and kessill. The current usa is a strip light 24 inches long with 90 degree lens no shadow and will cover length and front to back. Just some thoughts for you to consider as you shop for lights.

Sarah

I was looking for the model 4117 60 degree light, but I couldn't find it. Just wanted to look at what you were talking about.

Hello,

Only a few places still have them but they are half off. I just saw some but if you type current orbit Marine pros 72 inch some should pop up. Some places have them half off which I think even then they are maybe 409 normal is 800 but i have seen them lower. Current usa either Ike or Brandon may be able to track some down. When I asked for another one it was new and they just sent it to me. Not sure if they have any more but I would check.

@AquariumDani there are some great suggestions here but FWIW you don't need a $500-$800 72" light for your 20 gallon tank.
I think some of you are getting off track here, OP said she needs something around $300 max and the tank is just a 24" long 20 gallon.
If you are interested in the Current Orbit lights THIS is more in line of what you would need for that tank.

Thank you for bringing the discussion back on track.
I do have a lot of options and will look into all of them very carefully. Very new to the hobby and have no knowledge of lighting even in the real world besides pushing the switch up and down for my light to come on lol.
I appreciate everyone's input!

I think something like the AI Prime or Kessil A160 (or any other manufacturer that offers something similar) would be a good choice because of their size, modularity, and clean look/install. If you need more in the future, you can simply add additional units.
