This is amazing! Are you using live rock? If not, what are you using for biological filtration?

I started with a 4x8x8 block of MarinePure, but I think it was defective because it falls apart with the slightest touch and I have a growing pile of fines in the sump. After seeing them at MACNA, I recently added some of the Brightwell XPort media and plan to eventually just discard the MarinePure block after everything is seeded. I've got two of the large bricks placed passively in the main chamber, and the small cubes on the media tray between baffles.

I've been cleaning a few things up under the stand. I used one of these little boxes to contain extra cables and power bricks under my computer desk and they work pretty well here too. Keeps everything out of the way and safe from spills.





Also rebuilt some things on the mixing station, which had become pretty crappy with broken valves, warped wood, and a seized pump. It was becoming pretty easy to make excuses to not do water changes. Everything can still be broken down pretty quickly for maintenance and cleaning.

The emergency is just a straight pipe that's level with the top of the open channel 45. The details are really just the result of me iterating through a bunch of fittings and pipe lengths to minimize volume for this setup.

The video ends in its balanced state, where the open channel just handles a slow trickle.

I used that same box, mine was in black, when I had the Red Sea 170 since it's cabinet barely held the sump!

Chris - awesome video. I will be plumbing my RS tank probably in February (waiting on the tank). I have a quick question for you. I will be plumbing together the new RS tank and a small 40 cube on the same sump. Both will run the ghost overflows on their respective tanks and be fed by a common pump. Is there any reason not to plumb the OC and emergency drains into one pipe heading into the sump? So I'd run two main channels, and then see about having the OC and emergency drains from each tank Y together and into the sump. Let me know what you think. If the OC usually runs at just a trickle I'd think its ok but I'd love to get your thoughts. Tank is looking awesome. Keep up the good work!
