Chrissy's RSM 250

Aside from my magnesium test kit, I still use API. They seem to work fine for me, but I would like to upgrade, too. A doser would be nice...I manually put everything into the tank including my top off. I haven't gotten adventurous enough, yet, to stray too far away from the stock RSM. LOL
I was manually topping off too. Problem was my reefkeeper float switch bracket wouldn't fit on my eurobraced sump. I was toying with the idea of cutting my sump to fit the bracket but I'm glad I didn't. Too invasive there. I finally broke down and got the Tunze nano osmolator with the magnet mount. Now the sump's eurobrace was no longer a hindrance. During that time I was manually topping, I lost two sps frags and I blame the salinity swings for it. I also got a really nice 10 gallon elite aquatics ato reservoir. It will fit perfectly in my new stand.

WOW gorgeous tank!
Great looking tank!!!

Thanks guys!

Sounds nice, do you have a tank thread? For some reason, i can't keep any purple acros like tricolor, nana, or bonsai. I think it's from the manual dosing. I'm hoping that once the new salt parameters kick all the way in, I can just do weekly water changes and not have to dose, but that's probably wishful thinking! LOL

Thanks! On the side of the barrel of the newly mixed water. You couldn't see it until I rinsed and wiped the barrel after the water change and I could see it on the paper towels. I was also getting brown on the glass. We changed out the RODI filters, resin and membrane and it still happened. It didn't happen with the Tropic Marin, and the Red Sea Coral Pro leaves a white sediment in the barrel and so far nothing in the tank, but it has only been a few days with that one.
I was getting the same stuff,THey told me it was my water but did exactly like you did and change all the filters and still had the problem,They ended up saying I had to much iron in the water, But i ended up switching to Red Sea. Your tank looks great

I
think with your bioload the absence of dosing is wishful thinking! You should consider the Bubble Magus 3-way doser. It costs the same as 3 single dosers but has set-and-forget easy programming. I'll be getting one soon.

Chrissy!!! Your tank had got to be the most beautiful tank I have ever seen.

Why would it only show up with that salt if it was the salt?lol How are you liking the Red Sea?

I like how you have the rocks placed with the big open side. How do you like the LEDs? I've talk to a couple of people who have switched back to MH and T5. I still want a tank with some LEDs. Maybe i'll try it on my 20G one of these days.

tHE COLORS OF YOUR CORALS ARE AWESOME!

WOW! Beautiful tank! I now suddenly want to tear my tank down and start from scratch, love the rock-scape!

Thank you! :D

So far been on the Red Sea Salt about 2 months and love it, I can tell polyp extensions are already better. Plus I can mix the day i need it and only takes 2 hours, unlike the synthetic salts out there takes overnight..

Heres the response I got from IO

I did, and sent them to a couple of folks to confer. Have been waiting on a response, and just got it. They said it looks like iron. I don’t understand all the chemical ins and outs, but apparently the mixing causes excess iron to precipitate out. I double checked about the kind of water you have, and they said it didn’t matter. RO/DI, straight RO, whatever, there will be excess iron in the water, on occasion, and it will precipitate out while the salt is mixing. They say it is nothing to worry about.

Whoops...I meant water, not salt on my last reply. That's interesting about the iron in the water. I'll have to actually read the water report next time they mail it. I like the parameters of the Red Sea and it's doing well so far for me. I have only done a couple of 10g water changes with it though.

So you still got the majority of your older salt..Well your tank looks amazing.
