My old green chromis is a terror. Added 3 fairy wrasses back in the beginning in May. It constantly chases the orangeback wrasse and basically all of the wrasses hide in the rock and have scrapes on their sides from darting away from that little terror. It's a 200 gallon acro dominated tank. I have tried everything to catch the chromis including fishing in the tank and it's impossible to get out. Before I essentially destroy 7 years of acro growth to take a part the entire tank is there any chance they can ever coexist. The orangeback right now is on the very small side. The chromis is bigger. As the wrasse grows will the chromis kind of chill out?

Yes. The chromis should "chill" at some point, but you may need some other free swimming fish (like anthias) to mix things up a bit. I have 5x green chromis, 2x bicolor chromis, 1x black bar chromis and 4x lyretail chromis - and despite some of the green chromis being easily 3" - they never chase any of the other fish. The lyretail are rock dwellers and only territorial around their haunts.

My green chromis generally sleep in the corners of the tank at night - so that may be a better time to try and catch the sucker.

Have a lyertail also. They are a bunch of a$$es also. Just no where near as bad as the chromis. It sleeps in a bunch of coral colonies. Doesn't go anywhere near where it can be caught. I have tried everything. I have to decide if I want to destroy the tank and take everything out to catch this fish or let it play out if things get better as the wrasses get bigger.

lol. I have a pair of lyretails that are fine (it's the male marcia's anthias that's kind of a dick). I have one green chromis that sleeps in this massive chip's acro, but the others always sleep in the corners.

Sounds like you have a survivor! How often do you feed your chromis?

Right now i feed the tank every hour trying to put it in a food coma. Also trying to grow the wrasses faster. The benefits of working from home.

lol, good luck with that! My chromis get fed 10x daily...

Only other thing I am thinking is maybe I should like a tang or something. Right now Ibhave rabbitfish but they are very docile. Maybe just need something to scare it enough so it doesn't leave its specific area.

Tangs might work. I have an emperor angelfish in mine who's kind of the resident mafia head.

Is it a single chromis? I have 3 green and they are chill but my gold/black one is kinda a butt which I think is dude to them being schooling fish. I dont know if adding a few more chromis would change its behavior

Based on how it acts now I am sure it will kill them off very quickly.

he also chases the 2 other chromis

I feel you. I think my only options are to destroy my tank taking everything out to catch the fish or hope as the fish get larger the chromis leaves them alone. Not exactly thrilled with those options, haha.

well, I have a NYOS fish trap and back in the days when I catched my hippo tang the chromis went into the fish trap.
So theres hope I can get him out this way.

But I think I would get all 3 out in this case...... u'll never know

I have the nyos trap as well. Problem is my tank has glass thicker than 15mm so the magnet doesn hold, lol.

You could try adding more chromis. I've never had issues with my green chromis - but they've always been in a school of 3 or more. Maybe he's seeking female companionship?

I don't think I ever want a chromis or multiples in a tank again, lol. I have no doubt there is 0% chance any new chromis would last a day. Not worth this risk of adding something that has a greater likelihood of carrying uronema than doesnt.
