The clam should look picture perfect in the store.
Ive benn told the "itll open up more" thing as well.

Trying to size it by the pic was hard, but (if ur cool with some info im sure youll come across eventually) there seems to be a consensus that clams under 3 inches are hard to keep. I try to get clams about 3.5" long.
Obviously there are people who can keep smaller clams, but i think theyre tough (in my experience). By the way he looked early on id say it was probably nothing you did.
Chin up, and try again. Clams are beautiful, and one of my tanks will always have a clam.

Thanks, it was around 2 1/2 inches
Just checked water parameters:
pH 8.2
Nitrites 0.01
Nitrates 2
Amonia 0
KH 8
Mg 1320
Ca 400
Phosphates 0
SG 1.026
Temp 81
Darned good numbers. Tank looks good.
You may want to look into a par meter or lux meter or get a feel of what your getting in the tank. If it's low you can slowly increase the light. I like to feed a bit more for a bit and then start increasing the light. It'll help stop them from bleaching. You'll get better color too.
that is big cube, but yea the light may be a bit lowI found this on the par values of the AI Prime HD, my settings are similar to the ones in red.

yea, I was pointing that out.
Where do you think yours is at? the bottom of the tank number that is. That's the estimate you'll need.
Fwiw, I think that user has the cool white way to low(in red) that clearly is limiting the total amount of par. it works but.... you see the limitation there.

correct. The concern is for Most clams, the recommendation is 150 to 200 on the sand bed. You may be able to get away with 100 with a longer photoperiod. not sure what your is.
If clams are your aim,(esp on the sand), I would consider slowly start increasing the all of the channels to get the highest par. Slowly.
